Jessica and Whiskers
Here is a picture of Jessica and my other dog Whiskers. We had to put him to sleep at 17 years old in October 1998. He had arthritis in his knee(I really never knew dogs had knees)and had trouble getting around. After his knee started giving him trouble, I kinda hoped he would die, so I wouldn't have to put him to sleep, because I thought I would never be able to do that, but when the time came to put him to sleep,it was really hard, but I realized I was glad I didn't come home and find him dead. He had such determination! Let him out of your sight for a minute and he was gone!!Down in the neighbors yard 2 houses away. His problems sure didn't stop his appetite. Oh, how he loved to eat!

Jessica is about 9 years old now. I inherited her from my brother Larry and his wife Pearl. They live in Texas and when my dad died in 1994 they came for the funeral and brought Jessica with them. I fell in love with her and I think she fell in love with me,too. When the time came for them to go home, Pearl was sweet enough to let me keep her. My mom babysits her everyday while I work and when we go out on the weekend, but even before I walk into her house she seems to know I'm coming. Jessica will see other cars come down our street, but doesn't get excited until she sees my car.

One day in July of 1998, I was in my mom's yard doing some yard work for her, which by the way is next door to my house, and the rottweiler on the other side of my mom's house crawled under the fence and grabbed Jessica. I somehow got her away and drove immediately to the vet, where she got stitches on both sides of her rump and a drainage tube. About 2 weeks later, my husband and I went on vacation and while we were gone the same rottweiler somehow got out of our neighbors front door, and dashed over to my mom's front porch where Jessica was and got her again. This time she had to have 2 operations, and stay overnight. The one operation took place about a week later, for a hernia. She even lost some teeth. She seems to be doing OK now.

This picture is actually from a magazine, but it looks exactly like my Jessica.

Here's that dog again. What a character! He loved to get under covers. One time we were traveling in 100 degree weather and he crawled under the blankets!

These are pictures of the time we went to Texas and my son Steven came over to take care of Whiskers. Well, he didn't want Whisk to feel lonely, because he wasn't used to being by his lonesome, so these pictures are the result.I guess they were good enough to fool Whiskers, because that is where Steve found him when he came to check up on him.
