I am Cain. I am immortal. Cursed to exist outside of time, yet in space, I roam & explore and well here is my sorry tale.
In the beginning there was nothing; that is to say no matter, no linear time to be measured & no temporal space in which matter could exist, and we roamed the nothingness looking for sources of sustenance. We existed as an essence but not as substance. We are conscious & capable of thought and so we did often. We would think about such trivial things, yet it mattered not for there were no worries & we had all eternity to ponder such things thus we was serene. We are one and many, for there is no one being but, there is a soup of being. The best way to describe this is to say, imagine all the thoughts and memories in your head are individual people, then imagine that you are merely a being composed of these individual people and thus you can see our true existence. At this time I was not immortal and as time (if you can call it time) went on I had to sustain my being by feeding from the sea of sustenance, which had no conciseness and did not think, yet existed. As far as my knowledge reaches, I can remember no beginning. We have always seemed to have been and the nothingness reaches into the infinity of both time and space.
There is a being, outside of all this, which watches never making a move and has the power to change whatever it desires. You would not be wrong in calling it a higher being, though height is a concept that does not suit out current state, and so shall we say is simply beyond our reach? Anyway, we never paid much attention to these beings because they never did anything, as far as my knowledge goes. Then, all at once and once in all, in a time within time everything changed. The being moulded the infinity into a physical plane and said, I give you the Sacred Earth to live upon thus creating life. We sat aside and did some watching of our own. It then took the sea of sustenance, moulded it into physical beings and said, I give you Mankind to feed upon thus creating the living. Curious little creatures they were. They scurried around on the ground as if bound to it and still were incapable of thought; they simply ran like machines, filled with living energy. Finally, the being plucked a piece from itself, moulded it into substantial figures and said, I give you bodies to live upon the Sacred Earth thus creating us, the eternal.  We did not ask for this change, yet in our serenity we were grateful. Its task complete, the being then split into the seven gods, who spoke these words to me; You are Cain. You are forever. You are immortal. Curious thing to say I thought, but as I looked around and I saw others. I did not feel the presence of other beings and they seemed to be part of me, yet any physical force did not join us. The curiosity lasted but a short time and we soon returned to our serenity, but I found a great surprise. As my fellow brethren discovered that they could feed from Mankind to once more sustain themselves, I found no hunger. As my kind chased the scurrying Mankind, sucking them dry of all their life force, I remained as serene as before, with no hunger. I thought nothing of it.
For a time, our kind lived as kings in vast sub-dimensional cities, below the plane of the Sacred Earth. There is nothing like this within the planes of your possibility so I will not waste the time explaining it, however I will say that if you have a mind open to the light of possibility, you would have no problem getting a picture of it yourself. Mankind was farmed as cattle upon the Sacred Earth and needed to multiply to continue existing. They took life from the Sacred Earth so we milked Mankind of their life force, which we shared, with the Sacred Earth as love. It again, is not in the sense that you know love. Human love is but a flicker of lust in a glimpse of tranquillity; not at all like our sacred love for the Earth. Our love replenished the Sacred Earths stolen life and so it smiled greatly upon us. It would laugh & cheer and I would hear, and laugh with it.
We asked the gods why they had changed the nature of existence when we were perfectly serene the way we were. The gods replied, We took pity upon you. We knew we was not happy as a single entity so we spared you the sadness we had by dividing the nothing into the something. We told the gods that we could be neither happy nor sad and that we always have & always will be serene with simply existing. This angered the gods immensely; who wondered why we had shown no gratitude for this pointless change. How could we appreciate something which had no relevance to us we thought, but still the gods were angry. We cared not.
Time grew on and we attended our cattle, fed much, pleased our Sacred Earth and existed in perfect serenity. The others had forgotten our origins, but my immortally made sure that I could remember the nothing. One momentous day, the gods took pity upon Mankind and so created the Sun, a golden fireball of great light and heat. As the Sun rose in the sky, the plane of the Sacred Earth bent, Mankind gained conscious thought and our bodies began to burn away. Our sacred bodies had been built out of & for the darkness, and so was not immune to the light of the Sun.
The Sun reached its peak, Mankind had become Humankind, the Sacred Earth was now the spherical Planet Earth, and we had become hideous, demonic creatures. We skulked in the shadows. Those that were not burnt to dust by the Sun were dying of hunger. We could no longer simply drain the life force out of the Humans now that they had the protective power of will. We found that the Human life force was contained within the blood and so could be consumed that way; but we could not feed whilst in the shadows.
It was decided that the five most powerful of us would sacrifice their being to curse the Planet Earth. We gathered them from the four old corners of the Earth and then the one who stood in the middle as an attendant to the four. They came together during the Humans festival to the gods in appreciation for what they had done for them, hidden under a veil of thick mist. They formed a circle on Mons, or what you call Everest, and, due to a ritual that cannot be explained in this tongue, so were created the Moon. The curse was that any human that tasted our sacred blood would become one of us thus replenishing our lost numbers. The Moon agreed to uphold this law and to periodically chase the Sun from the sky, thus creating the night. The night was a strange time indeed. It was a time when the song of the Earth soothed instead of laughed and so due to this, Human kind began to sleep, and have done ever since. This was a great asset to us, for now they could not run into the light and lied there in the shadows, unaware of our coming. Advantageous indeed - even I smirked.
The Humans did not take kindly to this. In some warped image of revenge, the Human hoard gave us the name of Vampire and hunted us down almost to extinction. Theyd come during the day to the caves & holes where we dwelled and were relentless in making sure that they killed every last one of us there. They even were so debased as to kill their very brother, or even their own daughters, so as not to let the spread of our kind continue. The gods had seen to it that we could not be completely destroyed, for I was still immortal and after the Human scourge slaughtered all my brethren their attentions tuned to me. I had never imagined that the Humans hate was so powerful that they would kill their own once sacred blood ran through their veins, but then, they are just cattle, no matter how much of a consciousness you give them.
I was hung, beheaded, drowned and sun-scorched, but my neck would not snap, my head would not part, I would breathe water and my eternal body would not burn away. Frustration turned to fear and the Humans fled thinking that I would exact revenge but, as always, I was serene. That is not to say that I did nothing. I knew that our numbers must return so I asked one final favour of the Moon. I asked to make it so that all Humans with newly sacred blood could concentrate that blood when they reproduce thus creating the pure. The Moon agreed and smiled a great smile.
By the time I had finished replenishing our lost I had become completely drained. Again we were many, but something was wrong. Because their Human hosts had Human hearts, these fledglings had many Human imperfections. For one, they had only limited life spans. Granted that they lived much longer than the Humans could ever do and the fledglings did not grow old yet still aged. Also, these young Vampires were physically weaker. Of course they had superior strength towards the Humans but they could only manipulate the matter that their physical bodies could allow. My brethren and I had unlimited strength, but it seems that these hybrids contained much Human frailty. Finally, we were not cursed with emotion, yet the fledglings were overwrought with anger and jealousy. It was this, which led to my failure.
For many a century I tried to control these fledglings, but they were more concerned with killing each other than mating. I struggled to convince the newly incarnated that they had to overcome these emotions and find peace in serenity but still they fought. They killed countless Humans in the pursuit of dominance and precious blood was spilt into the unforgiving soil. They had become the demon-scourge of the over-world and needed to be stopped. Humans feared them for their similarity and very few were brave enough to hunt the hoard down. Eventually they realised that their numbers dwindled and began to pair off. So began the great purification and purebloods began to emerge all over the world.
As Human civilisation bloomed worldwide, the Humans once again hunted us, but this time it was not for revenge, but greed. We occupied space and because we had no use, the Humans slaughtered us in our thousands and we became but a myth. Children would scare each other over a campfire with stories of Vampires and Blood-sucking demons but never was it believed that we existed and we took full advantage this. Pray was easy and the unsuspecting cattle would simply walk right into our trap. The worlds government, faithful followers of Human science, would deny our existence thus our feedings would go unprepared.
We fed carefully yet casually for a while and we remained more the watcher than the slayer, but what we watched was an abomination. The Humans, in an effort to exploit the world resources, had polluted the Planed Earth with their toxins and poisons. The air grew thick with smog, the water oozed with slime and the soil was stripped-bare like a plucked chicken. I would find myself, though not a great fan of the day time and its Human inhabitants, walking through a park or a field and everywhere I look, a food packet, or a drink can. There were waste piles the size of cites, and when they became too big for the Humans to hide, theyd bury it, under the soil. The world turned to ruin and all I could do was watch. This happened in a mere few hundred years and was irreparable.
The Planet Earth, thick with the disease of humanity and their poisonous pollutants, strained to rid itself of this plague. Cataclysmic natural disasters began to occur in large centres of Human population. Earthquakes swallowed their homes as if the Earth itself was trying to reabsorb the resources, volcanoes blew islands apart & covered the artificial terrain with flows of the Earths own life-blood, and hurricanes brought floods, plagues, cold & death, as well as destroying homes and farmland. I would often laugh to myself at the absurdity of Humankind. They think so highly of themselves, yet scurry like ants in a flood at the first site of trouble. It was in these times that we fed best.
Time past on, but not long (perhaps a thousand years or so) and the Earth wept, unable to keep fighting and sustaining life. Then, something I had never forgotten; the Earth let out a great sigh and stopped caring for its life. All life on earth struggled to survive but without the Planet Earths loving protection they soon fell victim to the Human scourge. I inquired within the Earth and the Planet gave me audience.
I asked, Why have you given up on life?
I am dying replied the Earth. I can no longer nurture life, my Cain
Why is this so? I said.
I can no longer fight. Humankind has drained me of my living energy and I cannot find the strength to struggle anymore.
But, why do you speak to me only of this matter? I said. Why do you not confront the Humans about your pain?
The Earth sighed once more and said, Humankind is blind. They do not hear my cries, they do not see my wounds and they do not feel my pain, my Cain
I feel your pain. I said, as I shed a tear for the Dying Earth.
I know. said the Earth. You are my Cain; my life, my joy and my child. You are the only one I now live for.
But, what can I do? I sobbed, with a very faint whimper.
Come now. said the Earth, You neednt cry for me. I am as much your servant, as I am your master. You will save me, my Cain.
With this I left, perplexed. I thought long and hard, perhaps harder than all my existing eons put together. My mind fell in I state of pain. I struggled to think of the answer, and then there it was, clear as the purest black. I realised that those with the power to change exist, and they do owe us a great deal.
I called the Gods down (from where ever they may reside: Heaven/Valhalla/Olympus.) and asked them, Who am I?
My reply surprised me. You are Cain, chosen of this Earth to lead your people into the shadows. You can neither live nor die. You are eternal!
And what is my purpose? I asked.
You will lead your people, the children of the darkness away from the light and into the care of the Planet the Gods said.
I quickly replied, The Planet? You mean the Sacred Earth?
The PLANET Earth is where you should be within, NOT the Human cities!
So is that my connection with the Earth? Is it merely my eternal tomb? I scoured.
You say your tomb! Do you not realise you are one of many of your kind? the Gods said. The Planet is more than just your prison Cain, it is also your warden!
I laughed ecstatically. You said yourself, I am their leader; my people ARE me! Do you not see that the Earth cares more for me than it does for Humankind? After all, how could you love a creature that is slowly poisoning you?
The Gods paused, then suddenly, Very well. Even though we see your argument truly flawed we shall humour your theory and with that the Planet Earth expanded, back into infinity & started to lose mass. Earth, Planet Earth we give you the essence of the void! said the Gods, and the Earth turned to nothing.
See Cain! screeched the Gods, See how you like it when your precious Earth swallows you AND the universes! Do you not see the irony?
Just then I heard a very faint whisper, no, not a whisper; more like a mist of words which said, Cain My Cain worry not prepare your soul, Vampire! and suddenly the Gods emerged form the infinity. Beings of pure light, it hurt my soul to look.
The Gods slowly drifted into the void of the Earth screaming Cain! Help! Help us Cain! I laughed. Pitiful beings I said, once so proud as to judge ME, and now so low as to ask for the mercy of those you sought to destroy!
But I never sought to destroy you Cain said the Gods.
Ah! I said, But by creating Humankind you made the means and the knowledge to destroy me! Did you really think that you could? After all, it was you who gave me this immortal body!
The Gods screeched, Cain! No! Were sorry Cai and with that the Empty Earth consumed the Gods & they were no more.
Just then, a glow, not a blinding emission of light, but a pleasing, soothing glow started to emit from the Empty Earth. It dulled and then came the words, My Cain, it is I, the womb of your birth & the child of your life-blood. The Earth? But how? It then went on to say, I have the power to change Cain; that is, if you so wish it.
I wish it I said, and the Divine Earth, filled with the powers of the consumed Gods started to pull in the Humans deadly Sun, thus we were released from the shadows and the Day was once again ours. Without their golden symbol of Civilisation the Humans quickly reverted back to Mankind and so we rejoiced.
Do not celebrate yet, said the Divine Earth, which then swallowed the Moon. You have no need for such an object any more, said the Earth and thus the curse was broken. It then sucked in Mankinds corporeal form and so reverted once more, into the sea of sustenance that was when I was very young. I turned to the Divine Earth and asked, But how do we feed in these bodies? Do not be so hasty, said the Earth, and with that I felt all the matter drain out of my body. The Earth had absorbed our sacred blood and flesh, so we existed once more out side of time & space. Slowly we merged back into one, and many. Again, we were, as we had always wanted.
The now Sacred, Divine Earth lamented a great sigh of relief, and so everything was back as it was. I, the immortal Cain, and we, my kind was one and the same. We feasted once more upon the sea of sustenance, yet with a new purpose; to sustain and be sustained by our Sacred, Divine Earth.
And so I come to the end of my story. What happens from here, who can tell? I do not see the future, but I will never forget the past.
