The Continental Walk

Stan Johnson

Born in Detroit MI, Stan was first pulled into his brother's rock band at the age of fifteen (sneaking into clubs and dance halls).  His next gigs consisted of a polka band and a Canadian veterans hall jazz band.  Since that time, Mr. Johnson has been performing in big bands, rock groups, salsa groups and blues and soul bands in clubs and festivals from New Orleans to Montreaux, Switzerland.

Now settled near Boston, the last 15 years has seen Stan still performing in all possible situations.  He has been playing solo and lead books for local big bands, occasionally playing in the horn sections of Latin groups, playing in theater pit bands, as well as civic orchestras and solo recitals.  More recently, performances have included a western US tour with Mighty Sam McClain, as sideman with guitarist Rick Russell and organist Ron Levy, as well as continued engagements with his jazz trio and quartets.

Although he can make himself comfortable in almost any playing situation, his main interest has always been in jazz and blues.
