Mike DiBari began his professional career in the Boston area, after
paying dues playing in various situations in New York clubs and the streets
of Tokyo. He quickly established himself as a sought after
blues/jazz guitarist in the local music scene performing with Toni Lynn
Washington, Mickey Bones, Sax Gordon and the Part Time Lovers.
Steve Morse of
the Boston Globe called Mike, "a well-schooled singer and
guitarist." His music education first started in New York City at
the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied classical guitar with
Nicholas Goluses and the great Mme Segovia. Later he earned a
Bachelor's Degree from the Berklee College of Music, where he further
horned his skills as a guitarist learning from Jazz masters, John
Damian, Jim Kelly and Jon Finn.
In 1996, Mike
started his own band, the Mike DiBari Swingtet, and in the following
year released his first CD, "Jumpin' The Blues." The CD
received favorable reviews and was picked up by Hepcat Records and
distributed world-wide. In 2001, two of the songs appeared on the
Shag Archives' compilation CD, "Hot-'taw-mighty," which is
getting airplay on radio and in clubs in S. Carolina.
While being a
key player for Sweet Willie D, Mike is currently performing with his
Jazz Trio and showcasing more of his original compositions. As
Charles Sawyer, the author of The Arrival of B.B. King says,
"Mike is one of the most interesting guitarists to make it on the
Boston scene in recent years."
