I bought this car in the spring of 1999 knowing that I'd soon be moving to Austin and away from my mechanic. I needed a reliable daily driver, a car that I could just jump in and drive without any special attention. I also knew that I'd be racking up some miles living out in the suburban boondocks. (Over 173k now, not withstanding the miles I've put on the other 4 cars. Yikes!).

The car is double black with heavy tint and ready for mafia/hitman or livery duty.
There's a moonroof of course!
The dash design, while dated by comparison with today's curved pods,
is a direct decendant of the original linear dash
but is most similar to the long-running design of the 80s.

Quality: Job#976? The bumpers don't hold up well. The top photo shows the rear bumper sag (aka. "sagosis"). Just about every example I've seen on the road exhibits this dip from the taillights towards the license plate.
The bottom photo shows the front bumper. The "chrome" trim is covered by a clear layer of plastic that slowly wears away from stone chips. The result is a discoloration of the underlying chrome.
Other stupid stuff: The slide out ashtray/drinkholder blocks the radio controls when there's a beverage in the left hole.

Strangely the 1998+ Town Car uses the same cupholder arrangement except the radio is on top and its the climate controls that are blocked. I guess the designers were counting on infrequent use of the "set-and-forget" automatic climate control.

Update: The car is gone! I sold it on ebay and the buyer came and picked it up March 28th, 2003. It departed looking as good as ever. The buyer got a hell of a deal. So long, TC.
