Artificial Life
M. Allen
It has always been the realm of science fiction to bring a living creature, once dead, back to life. But in principle it would be not the hard. All of your joints are moved by electircal current. The same type that lights your house, Albeit in smaller levels of voltage. If the vairous nerves could be isolated and connected to a central electroinic brain. The basic muscle structure simlar to a human body could be created. A basic computer would be more then capable of sending could electricity to each muscle at the appropriate time. However at this point in time such contrpations lack the ability to think. Everything to do must be pre-programed and if the eviroment changes they must be reprogramed to compensate. As far as the thing that seperates man from machine, That is blood. Blood is nothing more then a liquid medium to carry oxygen to the body and thereby prevent decay. Artifical (plastic) blood has been around for about 5 years or so now. Similar substances have been created for the care of premature births in which the baby is not developed enough to hold their lungs open. But it a mechanical machine Blood is not required. As oxygen is not required to inhibit decay. To and a circulatory system would add to the cost of the project and is realy not required. As for sight there are so many improvments being made in the areas of optics that I do not see a conflict. Now vision for this creature would not be perfect but it would be enough that it would not hit walls. While I see this as still many years off, it is none the less an intersting concept to contemplate.
