Cold Winds
Kathryn stood from her chair and walked to her readyroom.
The chilling wind that followed her told me in exactly what mood she was in.
When she left the coldness disappeared somewhat, the cold air became fairly
warm, that was until dad walked onto the Bridge, saw mum wasn’t there and made
his way to her readyroom, entering without pressing the chime.
It was at time like this that I new that mum and dad had had
a fight, for the cold winds were blowing on different sides of the sail, causing
an unbalance on the ship and tipping it.
It is one of those days, were the rumour mill, starts flowing. It seems that something good has happened, it’s like if they’ve made up from there lovers quarrel. Their eyes are shinning and this time a warm wind follows them as they walk to her readyroom. Their previous eyes games and her fidgeting tells me a lot. It makes me smile, for the winds are blowing in the same sail, and it’s about time, for mum and dad to be happy. I may be their daughter but sometimes all a daughter can do is hope her parents stay together.
We argued, and I should’ve known better than to bring the
subject up, when both of us were exhausted. I admit I was wrong to do so, and as
I stand in the turbolift waiting for it to open on the bridge, I hope I’ll see
our daughter because she will make this fight worth it.
Nana is a very wise young adult, able to recognise a person’s mood
by the wind following them. Today the winds blow fiercely, she tells me as I
pass by and see her shiver. I then enter Kathryn’s readyroom to make peace with
her.
Our daughter Nana, always makes me smile. Even when I am
angry, as I am today. She’s our everything, even our reason for fighting. We
fought about her yesterday; a silly pointless fight but since we were very tired
we said very painful and nasty things to each other.
I was thinking this when I walked to my readyroom, but I did
notice her shiver. She’s very responsive to people’s moods, I’m guessing she
felt a cold front as I passed by. She’s a remarkable person, very capable of
taking care of herself. I owe Chakotay and apology, I think.
" NANA is our child, in case you hadn’t noticed."
"I had."
Silence.
"Kathryn, all Nana wants is her MOTHER, not a bitchy
captain."
"I AM her mother, and I am not
BITCHY."
"THEN ACT LIKE IT DAMNIT ."
"Are you saying I’m not saying her as our child?"
"I’m saying you need to treat her as your child as
well, I fear you will turn around someday and finally realise she was
calling for you, and that it will be to late. She wants you more than as her
overly protective Captain." He said, then turned around and left.
