Poor Sega, the Mega CD was a flop. What should we do now? Lets design a funny shaped mushroom add-on for the Mega Drive and see how crap it sells. The sales were so bad for the 32-X that there were only ever 36 games released for it. The 32-X was literally just a mushroom shaped unit that sat in the Mega Drive's Cartridge slot and umphed up the graphics. Released in 1994 it was mocked basically, and with the promise of a decent 32bit console from Sega round the corner (The Saturn), people just didn't bother. It was considerably more powerful than the Mega Drive and Mega CD put together, but it was the poor recieval and lack of good games that killed this unit in just a few months. Games for the 32-X included the only decent game, Knuckles Chaotix. This game was Knuckle's first starring role, and with the help of Charmy Bee, Vector the Crocodile, Mighty The Armadillo and Espion the Chameleon the game was the only good game released for it. Other games included Star Wars arcade (which isn't too shabby) and Doom. This console is misconcieved on eBay as **Rare**. Is it buggery. It is hard to get compared to a Mega Drive or CD, but is not rare. If you do want to hunt down a 32-X, make sure it has a transfer lead to connect the Mega Drive's AV-Out to the 32-X's AV-in, other wise it is a waste of time. I reccomen you pay no more than 30 for this unit, however Boxed units have exceeded 55 on eBay, so be warned. They are very very hard to find in car boot sales. Anyway, the 32-X is only worth it if you are going to buy Chaotix, which is now very expensive to get a hold of these days, the last one a saw fetched 72 on eBay, again, be warned!!

Specifications:

(Don't forget the co-processing power of the Mega Drive and CD)
Graphics: 50,000 Polys per second via 32-X VDP (Video processing unit)
                32,768 displayable from a 32,768 palette.
RAM: 4MBit + MD + MCD

Again, Sega released an add-on. By now, the Saturn was around the corner and people just didn't bother. A bit of a dissapointment for Sega, who by now must be realising that they could not catch up with Nintendo's SNES. There was a couple (And I stress *Couple*) of CD-32X games released. These were basically 32 bit Mega CD games, what was the point? Also, you needed three transformer packs to run a MD+MCD+32-X setup, talk about power consumption!

Personal Owned Games (I dont have enough for a list):

Star Wars Arcade
Doom
36 Great Holes with Fred Couples (Arggghhhhhhh why did I have to get this game with my 32-X, its awful!!)
Virtua Racing DX

(Please note Chaotix is not on my list, even though I really wish it was!)

If you looked at this, you are probably best looking at the Saturn
