WAYNE STATE CONSERVATIVE UNION
Letter from the Founder
Hello,

I'm glad to see that other students are taking an interest in the Conservative Union.  I hope more and more will seek membership and keep the organization a lasting presence on campus, long after I have graduated.  Membership is open to all students who believe with Russell Kirk that "the impulse to improve and the impulse to conserve are both necessary to the healthy functioning of any society."  All that do are welcomed and all will be a valuable asset to the Wayne State Conservative Union in the months, years, and hopefully decades to come..

The WSCU consists of a diverse group of people, which makes it hard to lay out any sort of "party line."  Some align theirselves with the Traditionalist branch of conservatism (those defenders of standards,  tempered with both classical and religious thought) and there are others who align theirselves with the Classical Liberal branch (who focus greatly on individual freedom).  There are other in between and beyone these two terms.  Certainly conservatism is no monolith, and it has always been hard for conservatives to agree on first principles (though typically easier to agree on first actions).  With this crowd of people all conservatives will find a place to fit in.  All in all it is an interesting group.

I formed the group for two main reasons.  To offer a place where conservative students can get together and discuss any variety of issues and make friendships with other campus conservatives.  For to long conservatives have been seprated from eachother to survive the PC university alone.  The other was to offer an organization to promote conservative issues and beliefs on campus through activity.  I hope the organization meets these needs well and I hope that you find the organization thus far to your liking.  For further information I suggest exploring the site.  I hope you find the organization to your liking.

Thank you for your interest.

Sincerely,

Bryan Hoffman
Founder and Former President of the WSCU (2002-2003)
