On Tuesday Republican Primary voters found themselves losing their drivers licenses and other forms of voting IDs taken from them by primary poll workers. New Voter ID laws in Wisconsin require that all voters must show a valid form of photo ID in order to vote and federal law permits officials to confiscate ID that they believe may be counterfeit. Maxwell Carter 47 of Milwaukee a carrier for UPS said “I need my drivers license for my job without it I can’t work and if I loose my job over this you better believe I will sue the state.”
Over 2,100 voters had there IDs confiscated under suspicion they may be counterfeit mostly in the Oshkosh, Green Bay, and Milwaukee areas however there have been reports state wide. Attorney General Brad Schimel (R) said “These people shouldn’t be voting with false IDs to begin with. When Schimel was shown people with legitimate ID had their IDs confiscated Schimel continued “Who cares what they think? It is not like they give thousands of dollars in campaign contributions.” Schimel refused to answer further questions regarding the matter.
