As some of you may know....I recently sent some of Alexander's pictures to some local modeling agencies. Most of the agencies responded by saying he was too young for what they deal with but, one was interested!
They called me to set-up an appointment/interview.
We drove down (about 1.5 hours away) on Monday, February 12th. We filled out a little paperwork while we waited for the agent. We went into a room filled with pictures of people they represent and the agent spent some time talking to me about Alexander. She asked about how he reacts with strangers, what he likes to do, does he like the water, is he crawling and on and on. She also spent a little time holding him and seeing how he reacted to her.
She had me bring in some additional snapshots. After spending time with him, she took the pictures into another room for a little while and came back to let us know that they are interested in representing him.
She said she had to make sure that they didn't have anyone else in his age category with the same look. She explained that they only take a few kids in each age category that are blonde/blue or brown/brown or black or hispanic. This way it is fair for everyone.
The agency has been around for 30 years and they have offices in LA, Portland, Eugene and Seattle. They represent people like the Jackson Brothers (one is a soap star and the other is best known for being on Saved by the Bell), they represent models (that I recognized from magazines) and even Miss Washington. They have had people in movies, TV shows (The Fugitive is filmed locally), commercials, print work and runway. Some of their bigger local clients are The Bon, Nordstrom and Eddie Bauer .
There is no fee to be represented, but they wanted $550 for comp cards to be done with a photographer that they picked. This is expensive for comp cards and I should be able to choose my own photographer. I told them that I would be willing to have them work with just his snapshots for a month or so and see if anything comes of it and then I would reconsider getting comp cards done.
I contacted another agency this week and they told me to send some photos of Alexander for them to put into their file. They said that they don't have comp cards done of babies because they change so much so they just work off of snapshots.
I also talked to a local photographer that does comp cars for three different Seattle agencies and does a lot of pageant photography. She said that the agency I went through gets kids jobs but they make a lot of their money off of comp cards and photography (which is wrong!) So, I'm glad I passed on the comp cards for now. The photographer recommended going through another agency (the one I sent snapshots to for their files).
I also came across a site that mention sending a snapshot and some information to be considered as an extra for the TV show "The Fugitive". It's filmed about one hour from here. I sent pictures of me and Alexander, we'll see what happens. (Brian didn't want to do it)
I'm excited about getting started. I'm hoping to put a little money into his college fund with this. He may get very little or he may do well. Either way, I'm excited to have the opportunity! |
