Gen 12:2,3 Abrahamic Covenant

Gal 3:24 Law leads us to Christ

Heb 4:16 Come boldly to the throne of grace

Heb 11:6 Faith

Josh 24:23, 24 Call to obey

Abrahamic Covenant- land, nation, blessing

Joshua leads in fulfilling Abrahamic covenant and the conquest of the Promised Land

Rahab – disobeys authorities, but obeys God

as a picture of faith and of God’s grace

Jericho – what seems impossible to man is possible with God

God calls us to focus on Him and not external circumstances

Ai – Achan’s sin separates him from God and cost him not only his life, but the lives of his family and

the Israelites who died with the first attack on Ai (take sin seriously)

Know the cycle of the judges:

Walking with God – Sin – God’s judgement/correction – Israel’s repentance – God sends a judge

Be familiar with the stories of the judges Deborah, Gideon, Samson, and Samuel

Deborah: God uses women to deliver Israel – Deborah, who goes with Barak, and Jael, who wields a tent

peg

Gideon: youngest of clan used to tear down altar of Baal

Was called on to lead Israel against Mideanites – God strengthened his faith with the "fleece

thing"

Reduced his army to 300 men so God would get credit for victory

Samson: was set apart from birth to be used by God

Was deceived by Delilah to reveal the secret of his strength – a Nazarite vow to not cut his hair

Destroys many Philistines at the end of his life by toppling the building

Samuel: was set apart from birth to be used by God

Was open to hearing God’s instructions – His word (Yes, your servant is listening)

Was proven as both a prophet and a judge.

Jesus was and is the final judge – He delivers us from God’s punishment and judgement as we repent and

accept His offer of forgiveness.

Jesus is also the final and eternal king of Israel.
