Review:

Abrahamic Covenant- land, nation, blessing

Joshua leads in fulfilling Abrahamic covenant and the conquest of the Promised Land

Know the cycle of the judges: Walking with God – Sin – God’s judgement/correction – Israel’s

repentance – God sends a judge (Deliverance) – and back to walking with God

Know these Old and New Testament books: their order, category, and short summary

The Pentateuch – Genesis (Book of Beginnings), Exodus (Exiting Egypt), Leviticus (Feasts

and Offerings), Numbers (Wilderness Wanderings), Deuteronomy (Second Law)

History – Joshua (Conquering the Land), Judges (7 Cycles)

Poetry – Proverbs (Wisdom), Major and Minor Prophets

Gospels – Matthew, Mark, Luke, John; Acts – History

Epistles – Galatians, James

Gratitude: thankfulness

Humility: a right thinking of whom you are – both good points and faults - sandwiched between pride

and self-abasement (thinking you’re the worst at everything even when you are not)

Jesus fulfills the Law, is our sacrificial substitute (the Lamb of God), and in Him we are made right

with God and not through any works of righteousness.

God offers salvation to all people – to all who will humbly acknowledge they need it

Religious leaders during Jesus’ time put their traditions above God’s word and so misrepresented

God to His people.

God values people’s ability to choose – He wants all to come to know Him, but some will reject Him

Concentrate on:

Galatians, an epistle or letter, was written by Paul to the church in Galatia, which he visited,

told them of God’s grace and salvation through faith in Christ, but were now listening to false teachers who were trying to teach faith and obedience to the law.

In Galatians Paul tells them that God is the source of his message, he preaches justification by

faith alone (not by obeying the law), and backs it up by discussing the promise given to Abraham before the Law was given to Moses.

James, an epistle or letter, is believed to be written by James, the brother of Jesus. It addresses

Jewish Christians and focuses on how faith in Christ produces good works that can be seen by others - true faith results in hearing and doing

James and Paul do not disagree in their theology – we are saved by grace not works. James does go a

step further and declares that true faith is evidenced by actions
