Lib. in Vidalia, Georgia I ran across a rare book called "American Ancestors of the Children of Joseph and Daniella WHEELER of whom we have records". The book mentions Moses WHEELER who was born in Kent Co. England 1598. Settled in New Haven 1638. Married Miriam Hawley and settled in Stratford 1648. The book was only 24 pages long but had quite a few WHEELERS in it. If there is any possible connection or interest let me know. Do you know anything DR> about this HALSEY line? Diane, The immigrant ancestor of my and many other Halseys is Thomas Halsey born about 1600 in England. There was a Halsey family genealogy published in about 1892. It contained a lot of pages on his ancestors in England. In about 1947 a Herbert Seversmith published a book called Colonial Families of Long Island, New York and Connecticut. Mr. Seversmith proposed that the Halsey Gen. was wrong and showed some proof. In 1950 he published further proof of records of Thomas Halsey in England. What it comes down to is that Thomas Halsey married a Elizabeth Wheeler (of Cranfield, Eng.), dau. of John Wheeler & Elizabeth. Thomas & Elizabeth had 5 children baptised at Kempston, Bedfordshire. Their last child was baptised in Cranfield on 22 Apr. 1638. Thomas had moved his family to Lynn, Mass. by 1639. In 1640 Thomas and his family was one of the first to settle in Southampton, Long Island (NY). It is fairly obvious that your ancestors are related to mine but I'm not sure how. Mr. Seversmith references to a WHEELER section of his book when talking about Elizabeth Wheeler Halsey. I only copied the Halsey section when I saw it a couple of years ago someplace out of town. The Halsey section is pages 1203 to 1222. It is a VERY large books. 3 volumes I think. There was only about 100 copies of the book made. What I copied was from a microfilm copy so check around and see if you can find a copy available near you. ... I have in my possession the following tome: Albert Gallatin Wheeler Jr, THE GENEALOGICAL AND ENCYCLOPEDIC HISTORY OF THE WHEELER FAMILY IN AMERICA, American College of Genealogy, Boston, MA, 1914. (1113 pages, plus index.) (A helpful volume, after it's fashion, but hardly a *complete* collection of the surname, in spite of its name and thickness. I'm sure you've discovered just how common WHEELER is!) I *did* find this entry on page 905, in the "WHEELERs, not connected" section concerning Enos WHEELER: "Edward WHEELER, of Red Hook, Amenia, NY, married 3 January 1774, Elizabeth WHEELER. Children: John WHEELER, baptized 25 December 1777. Edward WHEELER, born 23 November 1778. Enos WHEELER, born 16 July 1780." I couldn't find likely entries for your Nehemiah or Austin B., unfortunately. Hope this helps! Shana Z. The 6-line entry was in the `WHEELERs, not connected' section of the book--ie. unconnected to the 17 WHEELER lines outlined in the first 543 pages of the 1113 pages of the book. That is not to say Edward and sons can't be related to any of the main lines, but the compilers of the book were unable find `proof' to tie them in. They may or may not be related to any of them. (There's LOTS of WHEELERs!) SY> ENOS WHEELER is the father to my two other WHEELER'S: Nehemiah SY> and Austin. The entry I quoted in last message to you mentioned Edward WHEELER (father of your Enos) was "of Red Hook, Amenia, NY". These are both towns in Duchess Co, NY; perhaps you might find more info on the family in that area. Perhaps you might join a family association (I've subscribed to the `Wheeler Cousins'; for further info, contact: Vivagene Handley, 2011 E. Rosebrier, Springfield, MO 65804); put out lots of queries in genealogical newsletters and magazines.... Actually, I'm open for suggestions myself; I've been `stuck' tracking down info on my 5great-grandfather, John WHEELER (born 1764-MD, died 1832-KY), married 1796-Madison Co, KY to Susannah TIVIS (born 1772-MD, died 1866-IN); 5 children: Nancy ROBERTSON (1796-1841), Mary ("Polly") BARNES (1798-1868), Tilson WHEELER (1801-1876), Reason (Reesan) C. WHEELER (1803-1882), and Thomas WHEELER (1804-1860/66). My line, via both Nancy and Reason, migrated to Shelby Co, IN by ca.1840, then to Clark & Crawford Co's, IL, ca.1860s. (I haven't been able to connect with any of the WHEELER lines in the WHEELER book, either.) Sorry I'm not much help.
