THOMPSON in Massachusetts - Essex County by David Stever 7 Feb 1990 ------------------------------------------------ I have an interest in the Thompson family in Essex cty. I had the dau. of a Thompson marry into my Stever line. The fellow's name was Eben Thomspon, and he had a father named Ebenezer. The Pitman must come into it, as I have a Nettie Pitman Stever (dau. of a Frank Elbridge Stever & Alice Leona Goodwin). My Stevers were in Salem, Marblehead and Gloucester for about a century, but the last time I checked (six years ago), there were none left in the phone books for the North Shore. My address is 788 Dayton Avenue, St. Paul MN 55104-6660 * Origin: City Terminal BBS - Twin Cities MetroNet. ======================================================================= 028/182 04 Mar 90 19:16:42 From: Bill Buckley To: All Subj: THOMPSON / CURTIS(S) ------------------------------------------------ I would like to communicate with anyone interested in the THOMPSON line that descended from John THOMPSON and wife Mirable. Sarah had Joseph, the 4th son, and David had Benjamin, the 5th son, of John and Elizabeth CURTIS(S). John , mother Elizabeth, and brother William were also among the first settlers of Stratford, CT. The National Society of the Descendants of John and Elizabeth HUTCHINS CURTISS is based in Stratford and very active in pursuing this line, they recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. Researching the THOMPSON line - David was in the Revolutionary War. It looks like Curtis left the CT area and settled in New York near Ticonderoga in the early 1800s. The old THOMPSONs say that cannon fire (from Lake Champlain) could be heard as Joseph was born. Many THOMPSONs remain in the Ticonderoga area. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Bill Buckley, 9 Fox Hollow, Derry, NH, 03038. Steve, Saw your message to Marilee re Sarah Thompson. My husband has a THOMPSON line as well, in fact that reference is what caught my eye to your first message. It has been a few years since I have worked on his THOMPSON family and what I do have is abit sketchy and I have no idea if there is any connection. Most of this info came from MYERS "Immigration of the Irish Quakers into Pennsylvania, 1682-1750"; "Enc. of American Quaker Genealogy, Vol II: Salem MM"; and some sources that I need to check on...ie I didn't make clear notes. Craig's THOMPSON family goes back to Thomas THOMPSON born in Yorkshire, England, married Elizabeth surname unknown. Known children, John born ca 1635 md 1665 to Jane HUMBLES; Andrew born 1637 md 1664 to Issabell MARSHALL. His line is out of JOHN. John and Jane had the following children; Thomas, JAMES, Ann and Mary...all born Wirkloe, Donard, Ireland. A John Thompson and family from Dublin, arrived Elsinburgh, West New Jersey, 22 Dec 1677 on the Mary of Dublin, John HALL (WALL), Master. JAMES, son of John and Jane, married 1700 Ann Hollingsworth (dt of Valentine Hollingsworth of Newark or Kennett Monthly Meeting, of Chester County, Pa, and New Castle Co, Delaware...this meeting was established in 1686.) The last THOMPSON in Craig's line is Sarah THOMPSON daughter of Enoch THOMPSON (1783-1855) and Martha LINDLEY. What makes this all interesting is that Martha LINDLEY's mother was a SARAH THOMPSON. These are North Carolina and Indiana families. If you think there might be some connection between your THOMPSONs and the above, let me know and I'll send you some group sheets, etc. Amy --- via Silver Xpress V2.24 [NR] --- QM v1.23/b * Origin: Southern Crossroads HST/DS [(214) 423-1498] *SDS* (1:124/4115.0) 725 266/22 640/206 Date: Thu Mar 07 1991 20:45:36 From: Jeff Linscott To: All Subj: THOMPSON Attr: genealogy ------------------------------- Need information on THOMPSON family (of Maine & Mass.). I am posting this message for an acquaintance--this THOMPSON is not in my lineage, although I do have THOMPSON in KY and MO. The above information was taken from "Descendants of Noah THOMPSON", which apparently is no longer in print. The family data was extracted from that reference several years ago at the LDS Library in Salt Lake and given to my acquaintance. She has since tried to find it at the library and it is no longer available. She has searched elsewhere, too, and cannot find it. Does anybody have a copy of "Descendants of Noah THOMPSON", or know where it might be found? I would appreciate a contact from anyone with knowledge about this THOMPSON family, or suggestions for further research. Donovan -- 12014 Ginger Creek Drive, Boise, ID 83704-3659 --- * Origin: !!
