I have an Elizabeth Taylor born Nov. 13, 1781 and married a James McCurdy ca. 1803. They resided in Path Valley, Pa. prior to removing to Ohio in the 1820's. This couple is my great great grand- parents and I have little reliable earlier information. If you have any or any ideas where to look for either I would appreciate a note. Thanks for anything you may come up with. You're the first person on the echo looking for TAYLOR's from the New England area of the country. Mine originate there also. I don't recognize any of your names, but since you didn't include any dates, I'm guessing that maybe I'm not far enough back in time. Dr. Silas Soule TAYLOR was born in either Pennsylvania or Vermont January 30, 1820. Have at least one wife Esther A. ?? Possibly another named Polly ?? CT, which is north of Danbury, according to the map. I had to look it up to know where Danbury is. This is my line, going backwards from the most recent Taylor's to the earliest. These were born in Warren CT. Cyrus Curtis TAYLOR b 17 Jun 1807 s/o John TAYLOR b 22 Feb 1785 & Anne BEARDSLEY s/o Joseph TAYLOR Jr. b 10 Aug 1760 & Mercy LORD s/o Joseph TAYLOR Sr. b 22 Jan 1713/14 & Hannah ? He was born in Barnstable Co. MA s/o Samuel TAYLOR Sr. b 14 Dec 1675 & Elizabeth ? s/o John TAYLOR b abt 1652 & Sarah MATTHEWS s/o Richard TAYLOR b abt 1622 & Ruth WHELDEN Richard was b in England and he was Richard TAYLOR the tailor, not Richard TAYLOR the Rock. There were two Richard TAYLORs in Yarmouth, Barnstable Co. MA. Are any of these TAYLORs related to you? I found the information about Cyrus, John, Joseph Jr. & Sr. in the Barbour Collection, which had vol. and page numbers under each entry. I thought I could write to the CT State Library and get copies of the records. I was told I would have to find the information in the land records. Is there an easier way to find or get a copy of these records, besides looking in the land records? There are not many books on CT or the New England states in this part of Texas, since many of the settlers were from the south. We are beginnig to get some books though. I would welcome any suggestions on research in CT and the New England states. Theresa Dunlap 1405 Canyon Plainview, TX 79072 * OLX 2.1 TD * All wiyht. Cyrus Curtis TAYLOR m Mary COUTANT 20 Aug 1829 in New Paltz, Ulster Co. NY. From OH Cyrus Curtis TAYLOR and his family moved to KY, then to Lamar Co. TX. My line of TAYLORs did use the maiden surnames in naming their sons. For example: Cyrus' parents were John TAYLOR & Anne BEARDSLEY. Anne's parents were Philo BEARDSLEY & Esther CURTIS, John's parents were Joseph TAYLOR Jr. and Mercy LORD. John Taylor's sons were: Cyrus Curtis TAYLOR Franklin Beardsley TAYLOR John Lord TAYLOR Even my Grandmother, whose Mother was Maggie Caroline TAYLOR, named my Daddy, Finas Hendrix Griffin. Hendrix was her maiden name. If your Silas Soule TAYLOR was born in NY, perhaps his parents were from CT. You might try checking the IGI for CT for a marriage of a Soule and Taylor, or even the Barbour Collection. If I see any reference to SOULE's and TAYLOR's, I will let you know.
