It is in "The Compendium of American Genealogy" Vol VII, 1942, edited by Frederick Adams Virkus, F.I.A.G., Genealogical Publishing Company, Baltimore, 1968. I viewed this book (R929.3 VIR) in the San Antonio, Texas, Public Library, in March 1991, while on vacation there. On page 883 it states: STEBBINS (Stebings) Rowland (bap. 1592-d 1671; son of Thomas Stebings, of Bocking, Co. Essex, Eng.), came in the "Frances." 1634, with 4 children and a relative, Mary Winche, aet. 15; settled at Roxbury, Mass.; at Springfiled, 1639; townsman, 1664; to Northampton, 1664; m 1618, at St. Mary's Ch., Bocking, Sarah Whiting (1591-1649). So what was Virkus' source? Can anyone prove this to be right or wrong? Any if so what are your sources of evidence? ... Joseph PARSONS 17 Mar 1669 was the dau. of Elder John Strong and Abigail FORD, both of whom may have come on the "Mary and John" in 1630 to Dorchester. Elizabeth is my 7th great aunt. She d. 12 May 1736. This is from Vol. 8 of the Mary and John books, I expect the multi-volume Strong Genealogy would be a better source. I believe Sarah STEBBINS who m. David PARSONS 22 Oct 1707 (in Springfield, MA) was the dau. of Thomas Stebbins and Abigail MUNN. Thomas was the son of Lieut. Thomas and Abigail BURT (m. 1676), Lieut. Thomas was son of immigrant Rowland Stebbins and Sarah (WHITING?). Abigail Munn (b. 1650) was dau. of Abigail BURT and Benjamin MUNN. This is from The Stebbins Genealogy (1904). I descend from Sarah's uncle, John Stebbins. And yes, if I read this stuff right, Abigail's mother eventually became her mother-in-law. John Stebbins, son of Rowland, marr. 1st Ann (Munson) Munden, and 2nd on 17 Dec 1657, Abigail Bartlett, dau. of Robert and Ann Bartlett of Hartford. Robert was said to be an early settler of Hartford and moved to Northampton about 1655. He was slain by the Indians 14 Mar. 1676. His widow Anne d. 3 Jul 1676, I assume in Horthampton. Not much but a first name, Harford,CT and a date of death. Looks like your Robert was the one listed as "early in Northampton". Good luck. ob --- Opus-CBCS 1.73a * Origin: Roots(SF!) Dwights History of the STROMG Family has been very helpful although at times inconsistent, and not in agreement with other records. ( Not a totally new situation)! For example on the first page of Vol 2 Jedidiah's wives are given as 1)Freedom Woodward, 2)Abigail Stebbins, dau of John and Abigail (Bartlett) Stebbins and 3) Mary (Hart) Lee. Ther is an account of how **Mary** fell from a horse and died 10 Oct 1710 near So. Hadley Falls. Two pages later (771) under some material concerning STEBBINS genealogy, it states that Jedidiah married Abigail (Bartlett) Stebbins after John Stebbins died. In the Stebbins Genealogy by Greenlee, it tells of Abigail (Bartlett) Stebbins falling from a horse near So Hadley Falls on the same date and dying. Greenlee also has Jedidiah marrying Abigail Bartlett, not her daughter. Any thoughts?? Dates of birth would favor Jedidiah and the mother Abigail Bartlett, although I don't have her accurate DOB. I don't have that much proof that Irene Day, daughter of Abraham is the same Irene Day that married Salathiel Judd. Irena Day m. 23 Sept.1790 in Chester, Hampden, MA to Salathiel Judd (IGI Extraction from Parish records, on microfilm #928224, item 6.) It says nothing about parents' names. My research was done by a cousin & I just took it for granted she had references for that part of the pedigree. I have found sources for the rest. Will check the Barbour collection for Irene Day. I know Abraham is in there. He is also in the Elmer I. Shephard Collection. But the Shephard collection ends with Abraham.
