She was b. about 1793 and was w/o Solomon Zuern, both bur St. Peters Blue Church Cem. Northumberland Co. They were pts of Esther/Hester, b. 1812 who m. in 1835 Samuel Hummel, from whom my mother," etc. He is interested in Hummel, Foy, Wolverton, Sober, Cherry, and Zuern families of pioneer days of Northumberland. A John Martin Schaffer and wife Elizabeth Cath- erine Loudenschlager had a son, Valentine, 1765-1852, married to Catherine Staub. (same Catherine as above?) If this is your Shaffer family,you are in luck. There is a big"John Martin Schaffer Genealogy," in Berks Co. Gene. Society and the article gives the address of the person who compiled it, and had sent it to another person who wrote to him, regarding the Shaffer family. No, I do not have a film or fiche reader but sure wish I did so I wouldn't have to run to the library to look at them. However, that is way down on my "wish list." I have purchased the IGI from LDS for all of PA.,N.J.,MD., plus some of Germany and Scotland, and all of Ireland. I've found my PA. fiche to be very helpful. They are very reasonably priced, for instance, it was $7.50 for all of Pa. This was for the 1988 index. They include all instructions for use as well as Batch Source Numbers. They will probably send you the forms, but in case not, let me know and I will do so. I would like to join AGLL and would, if I had a Microfilm reader, but dislike running to the library to look at films. I was a member of the Berks Co. Gene Society this past year and they have a film rental program for members and a great family group sheet program. They've just had a big turnover and possible changes in the society, so I don't know if they will continue to have the film rental program or not. If you aren't already a member, I would recommend looking into joining, as it may be beneficial for your Berks Co. research.
