SC> Susan, So. Hadley, Ma. Thank you, Susan. It's always rewarding to have something that is of value that can be shared with another. The one hole in my genealogy from the New England area is for Submit Scott who married Moses Howe on 16 Feb 1773 at Brattleboro, VT. They lived at Vernon, Windham, VT, but she is supposed to have been born in Hatfield, MA according to her marriage certificate. I can find nothing about her birth (which probably happened about 1753). However, with sketchy information, I'm leaning toward (but not very hard) toward Moses Scott and his second wife Elizabeth Henry, daughter of James Henry and Elizabeth Hastings. Moses Scott and Elizabeth Henry were married in 1749. However, I have a listing (and I don't know if it is complete) which shows that Moses Scott and Elizabeth Henry had Moses, Elizabeth, Tamar, Miriam, Elihu, and Anna. Only four of these 6 children had birthdates or years. The other two were approximations. Because there could have been others, I'm not sure this is complete. But, I dont' think any child would have been left out of the will and Submit and her husband Moses Howe were very prominent in the community. The Elizabeth Scott as daughter would be the correct age and I have nothing to show any marriages for her. The children of Moses Scott and Elizabeth Henry were all supposed to have been born in Barnardston in Franklin County. That does make it more difficult to make a case for Submit being their daughter. However, the naming pattern for the children of Moses Howe and Submit Scott would indicate that her father was Moses and her mother was Elizabeth. It decidedly is driving me nuts. Got any ideas. -Marlyn --- EZPoint V2.0 * Origin: Marlyn's EZPoint (1:105/319.99) Date: Tue Feb 11 1992 08:08:30 From: Charles Scott To: Dave Lambert Subj: RE: SCOTT - PA, OH. If you saw mine (#8375 2-9-92) you will notice that I have an interest in Winfield Scott as well. As my message said, there is a rumor in my family that my ggg grandmother was Gen. Winfield Scott's niece. She was born in New York, ca. 1814. I have never been able to find anything to confirm or refute this rumor. Winfield SCOTT was supposed to have visited my ggg grandmother, Hannah SCOTT around 1840. He was at West Point at that time, so it is possible. Information on Gen. SCOTT is very limited, genealically speaking. He did write an autobiography which gives some info on his ancestors. However I have never been able to find anymore information on any of these people. The historian at West Point, although he attempted to be helpful, had little that I could use. I would appreciate if you would get back to me with anything that you might uncover. There appears to be a lot of people looking for a connection to the man, but noone ever seems to find that connection. --- TBBS v2.1/NM * Origin: NGS/CIG BBS - Arlington, VA (703) 528-2612 *DHST/V.32* (1:109/302) Date: Fri Jul 31 1992 21:04:04 From: Marlyn Lewis To: Ed Ash Subj: Nash family connection Attr: GENEALOGY ------------------------------- EA> In reading your mail, I see that you are researching the NASH line. My EA> grandfather was Samuel NASH, B. 1864, Hadley, Hampshire Co., MA. He EA> descends from Thomas NASH, b. 1589, Worcester, England. Thomas settled EA> in EA> New Haven, CT. I have a lot of information on this line. Let me know EA> if EA> there is any connection and if we are cousins. I am also using PAF. May I butt in?? I have just discovered that I'm probably a part of that Nash family from Hadley/Hadfield, MA. I'm still working the connection with the help of a friend in Salt Lake City and Marianne Montgomery in Tacoma. To give you the short version: Submit Scott married Moses Howe in 1773 (he was born in 1750). David Scott married Esther Belding in 1739 and they stopped having children in 1751 (Esther probably died then) and I think that he remarried to Submit NASH, daughter of Thomas Nash and Martha Smith. This Submit Nash was born in 1732. There is a cemetery record in Whately, MA which states: Center Cemetery, Whately, MA: David Scott b. 1717 (that's the only David Scott born in 1717, so he has to be the one above), died 7 Apr 1812 at age 95. Submit Scott, consort of David, d. 4 July 1809, age 77. That would make her born in 1732. The only Submit anyone born in 1732 is Submit Nash. However, the History of Hadley says that Submit Nash died unmarried. Well, that book has been wrong before on issues like this. My researcher in Salt Lake is checking on David Scott's will and looking to find Submit (Nash) Scott's will to see if they had a daughter, also named Submit who would have been mentioned then as Submit HOWE. So, what we have is circumstantial so far, but very likely. As to Thomas Nash, I have him born in 1693 at Hatfield, died 1773 age 80 same place. He married in 1727 to Martha Smith. This Thomas Nash was the son of another Thomas Nash who married in 1685 to Hannah Coleman. He died in 1728 and she died in 1722. Thomas was son of Timothy Nash and Rebecca Stone and Timothy was son of Thomas Nash and Margery Baker. I can fill in some of the generations for the wives, but I have nothing on the families. I'd be happy to share what I do have. Marlyn --- PPoint 1.31 * Origin: A Professional Point System (1:105/319.99)
