Dave, in reference to your John ROCKWELL and his wife Sarah ENSIGN, we do have a match. Your John's father was brother to my John ROCKWELL (1588-1662(?)). The following is an excerpt from "The 'Mary and John'", by Maude P. Kuhns, 1971: "William ROCKWELL was baptizd at Fitzhead, Somerset, Feb. 6, 1591. He was the sone of John and Honor (NEWTON) ROCKWELL who married at Fitzhead July 19,1585. Besides William they had three other sons, Richard, John and Roger; and one daughter, Joane. John ROCKWELL, senior, died 1636. John ROCKWELL brother of William, born 1588, married 1619 Wilmet, daughter fo Christopher CADE, and was the father of John ROCKWELL, 3rd, 1610-1676, who married Elizabeth, the daughter of Jonas WEED. (This is my line) William ROCKWELL married Apr. 14, 1624, Susannah CAPEN, at Dorchester, Eng., born 1602, the daughter of Bernard CAPEN, 1562-1638. He came to New England on the 'Mary and John,' with his wife Susannah and their children, Joanna and John. He died in 1640, and in 1645 Susannah married Mathew GRANT. She died Nov. 14, 1666. As one of the Deacons of the Dorchester Church, William ROCKWELL signed the land grants and the town records, together with William GAYLORD, Rev. MAVERICK and Rev. WARHAM. He was a freeman in the first group, application Oct. 19, 1630. He stayed in Dorchester until 1636, and received a land grant in Windsor in 1637. Children: 1. Joanna, b. Apr 25, 1625, m. Eaton's book lists Daniel as the son of Jonathan and Margaret Rockwell. Jonathan is the son of Joseph and Hannah (Huntington) Rockwell of Windsor CT. In the townland record books of Cornwallis, Kings County, Nova Scotia the parents of Daniel Rockwell are recorded as Daniel Rockwell and Tabitha Hartshorne Rockwell of Norwich, CT. Daniel married Anne Reynolds, the daughter of Benjamin and Ruth Reynolds. Marriage took place 17 Sept. 1769 in Cornwalis, according to townland records. According to vital statistics in Norwich, CT. records, parents of Daniel (married to Tabitha Hartshorne) in Norwich are Josiah and Ann Bliss Rockwell. Josiah's parents are Josiah Rockwell and possibly Hannah __________ (she appears in a Norwich land record with Josiah). Parents have not been found of theis earliest Josiah Rockwell, who died at the hands of Indians in Norwich in 1675. I am seeking information on this earliest Josiah, his wife and parents. < Confusing, is'nt it? > --- Opus-CBCS 1.13 * Origin: SOURCE OF MAGIC Northeast Roots HST 203-431-4687 (1:141/725.0)
