I also am related to William Reade(Reed) through Ralph his son. William was born in 1587 at Brockett Hall or in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne county where he died. This parents are Thomas Reade and Mary. Thomas Reed IV and Mary Cornwall ARE NOT his parents. Thomas IV was born in 1606 making it impossible for him to be William's father since William was born in 1587. Thomas Reed never had a son by the name of William. I have done a lot of research on the Reed line. I have all the information on Thomas Reed IV aOwnd Mary Cornwall. If you need more info please let me know. Good luck on your research..... --- TBBS v2.1/NM * Origin: NGS/CIG BBS - Arlington, VA (703) 528-2612 *DHST/V.32* (109/302) ------------------------------------------------ 538/723 12 May 90 22:48:10 From: Blake Coombs To: Terri Jaskolka Subj: WILLIAM REED (1 OF 2) ------------------------------------------------ There are a few books where I have found information on the Reed family. The first book (I don't have the title page) on page 1 talks about William Reade (Reed) was born in 1587 at Brockett Hall. He was the son of Sir Thomas Reade IV and Mary Cornwall. As I will discuss later this information is incorrect. The second book is from "Colonial Families of America" Vol XVII pages 115-116. "William Reade, founder of the family in America, son of Thomas and Mary Reade, of Brockett Hall, was born in England, about the year 1587. His name was commonly recorded as given, although his decendants adopted ths form Reed. Nothing is known of his existence before his migratvon to the colonies, but it is presumed that he resided at Newcastle-on-Tyne, at which place he settled after his return to England, shortly before his death." ------------------------------------------------ 539/723 12 May 90 22:50:13 From: Blake Coombs To: Terri Jaskolka Subj: WILLIAM REED (2 OF 2) ------------------------------------------------ The third source and most reliable is called "A Record of the Redes" by Compton Reade published in 1899. This is the book that DISPROVES any relationship between William Reade (1587) and SirThomas Reade IV. This is the family of Sir Thomas Reade IV and Mary Cornewall: Sir Thomas Reade IV bapt-22 Feb 1606-7 at St. Helen's, Abingdon, England marr-8 Sep 1624 died-1634 Mary Cornewall born-1600 children: 1) Sir Compton Reade 2) Cornewall Reade 3) Geoffrey Reade 4) Anne Reade 5) Beatrice Reade 6) Catherine Reade 7) Mary Reade This Reade family resided at Brockett Hall, parish of Hatfield and Minsden, Herts, England. As you can see, Thomas never even had a child by the name of William. And Sir Thomas Reade IV was born 19 years AFTER William Reade (1587). I wish there was more information on the Reade line in England but as of now, there is no connection between the Reeds' of America and the Reeds' of Brocket Hall. If you hear of any more information that can tie the Reeds' of America to England please let me know, thanks. ------------------------------------------------ 138/754 15 May 90 08:10:10 From: Jack Robertson To: Terri Jaskolka Subj: William REED ------------------------------------------------ If you are interested, there is information on William REED in the one of the Mayflower Families descendancy books, Descendants of Francis Cooke. He had two sons, Robert of Reed, and Thomas of Reed-dale. From this new Reed family, living in same locality for centuries, descended illiam Rede, who in 1369 was made Bishop of Chichester. His great grandson was William born 1450, then William born 1490, then William born 1510, the William born 1545, then William born 1572 who married Lucy Henage and had William of Weymouth and John of Rehobath, the immigrants. A somewhat different pedigree is given in the book on Seth Read. All the above are what is now known as the READ family. Quite a few REEDs in Bedford County. Unfortunately, I cannot tie any of them to Christiana REED. However, I've extracted the REEDs mentioned in the 1700s and early 1800s, since these may be possibilities. Any of these neighbors of Nicholas LYBARGER?
