RATHBURN by Don Badger 2 May 1990 ------------------------------------------------ Recent research identifies Nicholas MOSHER's wife Elizabeth as Elizabeth RATHBUN, third daughter of John and Margaret (ACRES) RATHBUN, born about 1670 on Block Island. She probably married Nicholas MOSHER about 1689 and they moved to Dartmouth, Mass. and later to Tiverton, R.I. where Nicholas died Aug. 15, 1747. Elizabeth survived him but her death date is not known. The newly discovered evidence is written up in "The Rathbun- Rathbone-Rathburn Family Historian" published by Frank H. Rathbun of Fairfax, Virginia, who has been publishing a series on Rathbun family descendants for the past ten years. In Vol. 8, No. 1 (Jan 1988) on pages 2 and 13, there is a listing of the evidence supporting the theory that Elizabeth was a RATHBUN rather than an AUDLEY. In Vol. 8, No. 2 (Apr 1988) on page 30 there is a listing of the children of Nicholas and Elizabeth (RATHBUN) MOSHER. The early issues give the RATHBUN ancestry in England and disprove some of the early generations contained in Cooley's historic work on the RATHBONE family done almost a hundred years earlier.
