PERRY FAMILY by Sue Budlong Tue Feb 26 1991 ------------------------------- I'm tracking three separate PERRY families whose paths crossed in Washington County, Ohio, in the 19th century: - Thomas PERRY m. Catharine FISHER (my direct line) - Isaac PERRY m. Mary ARMSTRONG (friends, neighbors, and possibly relations of the Thomas PERRY family) - Edmund PERRY m1 Levi Prudence MELLOR, m2 Anna TAYLOR (rather more distant neighbors of the Thomas PERRY family; Edmund's daughter Matilda married Thomas' son Thomas "Jr.") Thomas PERRY was born in 1754 or 56 in Sussex County, NJ; parents unknown. Places lived include Sussex County (probably Vernon Township); present-day Shoemakersville, Berks County, PA, 1777-83; Northumberland County, PA, 1783-1802 (place unknown but I believe somewhere near Lock Haven in present-day Clinton County); eastern Ohio, probably Columbiana County, 1802-25; and present-day Palmer Township, Washington County, OH, 1825-42. Thomas served in the Revolutionary War in both the New Jersey militia and the Pennsylvania Line. He probably married Catharine FISHER (parents also unknown) in Northumberland County; their 10 children were born in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Children were: John m. Abigail PATTERSON (my 3rd great-grandparents) James m. Elizabeth ?ANDERSON Mary "Polly" m. William CORN(E)S Elizabeth m. James HUNTER Margaret m. William HU(E)STON Nancy m. Joseph PERRY (I don't know who his family was, yet) Thomas m. Matilda PERRY (daughter of Edmund PERRY) Sarah m. William NOLAND Rebecca m. George HILDEBRAND Susan(nah) m. William HICKMAN Isaac PERRY (parents unknown) was born in 1795 in Pennsylvania, probably near Lock Haven. He moved to Washington County, OH, in 1829 from present-day West Keating Township, Clinton County, PA (then part of Lycoming County). In Ohio, he lived near Thomas PERRY and was named as one of two executors in Thomas' will, written in 1838. Isaac's wife, Mary ARMSTRONG, was "of" Lock Haven. Their known children were: James B. m. Esther HUSTON Isabel m. ?Joseph BUSEY Margaret B. m. --- ARMSTRONG Mary Ann (never married) Lewis (died young) Sarah Ann or Amanda m. Doctor Vincent SMITH Hiel Armstrong (a.k.a. Armstrong or A.H.) m. Betsey --- I have less information on the Edmund (or Edmond) PERRY family. Edmund purchased land in both Washington and Athens Counties, Ohio, in the early 19th century, and in later years granted land to the university in the town of Athens. The first deed in which he was named as grantee was dated 1796, at which time he may have been a minor; the grantor, Joseph JENKS, "late of state of New York now resident of Marietta Gentleman," described him as "my little worthy friend Edmund PERRY the son of Sarah PERRY widow of Waterford." Edmund's children were: (by L. Prudence MELLOR) Mary m. Robert I. DANLEY (by Anna TAYLOR) Matilda m. Thomas PERRY, Jr. (son of Thomas) Ellen Edmund, Jr., m. Margaret GOPETE Ellery C. m. Sarah LEGORE Oliver Hazard m. Phoebe Jane BROADWELL Walter Isaac Lucy J. Martha William If these names match anything you have, I'll be happy--no, ecstatic!--to exchange further information. If not, please feel free to add them to your database for future reference. Again, thank you for your offer to share ... Sue Budlong, 6421 Maplewood Drive, Falls Church, VA 22041 p.s.
