A few minor mentions of PAGES; best quote fr. pg124-125: "Thomas Page was a juror 1640, after which we have not met his name. Sylvester Page was in the family of Mr. Williams 1652. George Page married Mary EDGECOMBE, probably a daughter of Nicholas, 1664; he was one of the selectmen 1683, and after. Christopher Page is mentioned in 1667. These were probably sons of Thomas Page, who we suppose, died before his children were of age. The name is still among us." This PAGE is not my line which is from Robert PAGE. The following was taken fron= "GOD'S INFINATE VARIETY AN AMERICAN", a book written by Georgia Brake Todd in 1939 *** JOHN PAGE, an early settler of Hingham and Haverhill, Massachusetts, was born about 1614, in England. He came to the colonies in 1635, and settled first at Hingham. "Page's Bridge" and "Page's Meadows" in that town are landmarks which perpetuate the family name. John signed a petition to the General Court, November 4, 1646. About 1652 he removed to Haverhill, where in 1659 he had several acres of land granted unto him. He was one of those citizens, who in June of 1683, voted for the building of a new meetinghouse on the same site "as the old one." In 1683 John Page was licensed to "keep an ordinary in the town," and at the following court meeting he was fined forty shillings for "selling drink to Indians." It is actually my mother who has been working for years, but since computers have been introduced into family tree searching, I must admit I am becoming interested. I will try to briefly tell you what my mother has found. Her search starts with Virgil PAGE and Barbery _____. She cannot get past them. She has found another marriage for Virgil PAGE - Lamer ALBRO m 26 May 1822. I have more detailed information than what is listed below. If you would like me to print it off and send it to you via US mail, please let me know. If I can send you diskettes for you to copy your data to send me your data files, I would be most appreciative. I will send you diskettes or send you money to cover whatever you feel is appropriate. Again, I thank you for your offer of help. A couple questions that come to mind: 1. Can you please tell us whatever happened to Sidney E. PAGE who was born about 1826 in VT. His son Myrl Ellsworth PAGE was born in Cambridge NE, and Louisa (Myrl's mother) had bought cemetery plots in or near Cambridge NE but we cannot find that Sidney E. PAGE was ever buried there. (Cannot find out WHO was buried in the plots she bought.) Cannot find where he was buried. Some family members eventually ended up in California...Myrl Ellsworth PAGE, for example, was buried in California. Another of Sidney's sons, by other marriage, was buried in California, along with that wife. 2. Can you help us determine where Virgil PAGE came from? When was he born? Where was he buried? My mother feels that he probably came from England, but we just suddenly appears in Vermont early 1800's. 3. Can you tell us what Barbery's maiden name was? Virgil PAGE sp Barbery ______ 1. I was swayed by the SHEPARD card file which listed (Thos) Virgil and Barbery as the parents of Simon, David and Eunice. Virgil's first wife was named Barbery in some records and Barbara in others. I took another look at the SHEPARD file and he had lightly penciled in " or another Virgil ? ". I guess he also had his doubts about Thomas Virgil. I'll send you copies of this and other pertinent information. There was a reference to Virgil in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register. In Jacob SHERMAN's ( of Pownal ) cobbling accounts, written partly by himself and partly by his wife Susanna was the following entry. " in Virgil PAGE's ( 1795 ), Simon, David, Benjamin and Eanis." This entry did not specify the items , but most of the entries were for shoes. Is Benjamin a known person in this family ? The year 1795 is another confusion factor as the first account mentioned in the paragraph was for settlement of work done. The reason you had a problem trying to match the 1790 census count was my fault. I goofed on the second column, it should read " free white males under 16." The first column "free white males 16 and older including head of household" was 3 ( father David, Thomas Virgil and Stephanus ). Second column males under 16 count of 3 ( Josiah, Timothy and David ). Third column "free white females count of 4 ( mother Eunice, Polly, Anna and Lucy ). This would match the David and Eunice family in 1790 if all the children were living and still at home. Abel Rowle was born in 1791. If this was the case, the Virgil in the 1790 census with a count of 2, 1 and 2 was a different person than Thomas Virgil s/o David and Eunice. Now a new problem arises with this 1790 census. Virgil would be one of the males over 16 and Barbery one of the females, but who are the other three ? Two males ( one 16 or older, one under 16 ) and one female are unknown. The three known children Simon, David and Eunice were born after this census in 1795, 1797 and 1799. Virgil may have had other older children so I'll go through the microfilm VR's again. I just looked for the known names the first time as there are quite a few PAGE records. I'll follow up on this and keep you posted with any new information. Genealogy wouldn't be so intriguing if everything just fell into place.
