OLMSTED by Edwin Foster Mon Feb 25 1991 ------------------------------- Re: Nehemiah Olmsted. "Genealogy of the Olmsted Family in Amedrica" by Henry King Olmsted, published in 1912 shows your Nehemiah on p.15. He was baptised at Fairsted, Essex, England on 10 Nov 1618 and came to America with his father, James, arriving on 16 Sept 1632 in the ship "Lyon" from Braintree, Eng. He settled in Fairfield, CT in 1649. He was a sergeant in 1657, and died before 2 Oct 1657. He and his wife, Elizabeth BURR, daughter of Jehu BURR, Sr. had one daughter, Sarah, who married Robert Ed Foster, Olney, MD ------ Editor's note: Jack Sanders, sysop of Source of Magic BBS, Box 502, Ridgefield CT 06877 lives in a 200 year old Olmste(a)d house and has done a bit of research on the family in Fairfield County. He has extensive information on Olmsteads in Ridgefield, Conn. The only information I have is: My gg-grandmother was Anna Marie OLMSTED, b Delaware Co., NY, abt 1816, m abt 1835 Samuel BRACE, lived in PA until abt 1843, then moved to Allegany, NY. I would be most interested in any OLMSTED's that may have settled in Delaware, Co. or any other clues you might provide me. Thanks for your interest. --Belva-- --- TBBS v2.1/NM * Origin: NGS/CIG BBS - Arlington, VA (703) 528-2612 *DHST/V.32* (1:109/302) Date: Sat Aug 22 1992 13:50:47 From: Ruth Armstrong To: Joel Chappell Subj: OLMSTEAD - N.H. ORPHANAGE Attr: GENEALOGY ------------------------------- New information has come to light. In searching for ancestry of Robert R. OLMSTEAD b. 1906 NH, in Nashua Protestant Orphanage in Nashua, NH in 1910, his son suddenly remembered that his father had had to go back to Court to get his name changed from Robert MAYNARD to Robert OLMSTEAD. His foster parents had been Joseph & Celia MAYNARD. This might have occurred between 1926 when he was 21 & 1938 when he married This court action might have been a separate action or possibly made a part of an earlier action when he was taken from the orphanage between 1910 & 1920 or later. He was out of the orphanage by 1920. This might have occurred in Nashua or Manchester, NH. What was the procedure used by orphanages when a child was taken from an orphanage and placed with foster parents Who handled such a proceeding and filed the petition - a county welfare office, town, orphanage, foster parents, or ? Which court handled such a case Also, does the State Vital Records have a record of death for OLMSTEAD, Allen M. died 1906 - 1920 " Sarah, his wife, died 1906 - 1920 " Herman L. died 13, Jan 1906. We certainly appreciate all your help. Many thanks for the recent BBS and letter. Letter in US Mail for you. --- Opus-CBCS 1.14 * Origin: NNY-Genealogy, Pleasant Hill, Ca 510-827-5714 (1:161/911.0)
