NUGENT by Robert Mclaren Sun Jan 13 1991 ------------------------------- JS> Looking for info on Arthur Nugent b. c1770 NJ or his father JS> first name unknown b. c1740-45 NJ; Arthur had five known JS> children, all born in Indiana Co., PA between 1809 and 1820. . Jim, I checked my Indiana County references and could not find any mention of Arthur NUGENT -- in fact there was very little mention of any NUGENTs. Just a mention of this name being a early settler associated with the lumber industry, and several NUGENTS mentioned in connection with Civil War units. No wills. I checked the two Pennsylvania census references I have to see if this would give any leads. Here is what I found. ............ As you can see, it looks like three in the 1800 census can be identified in the 1790 census (and I've indicated them). .......................... Indiana County was formed in 1803, from Westmoreland and Lycoming Counties. Westmoreland was formed in 1773 and Lycoming was formed in 1795 from Northumberland. Northumberland was formed in 1772. So, none of the names above are associated with the area that became Indiana County in 1803. All I can suggest at this time is that you check the 1810 and 1820 census records for Indiana County to see if your Arthur NUGENT was in fact there. If so, note where he lived and then check land records and tax records for that township to see what addtional info you can pick up. Hopefully, you'll be able to tie into one of the NUGENTs identified above. .
