MORGAN FAMILY/NEW YORK by Barb Biggs Sun May 10 1992 ------------------------------- I am currently stuck in the Oneida County, Verona Twp. New York area. My g.g.g grandfather Gilbert Morgan b. 1/1810 - d. 10/7/1857 is eluding me. I find him on the 1840 census however, have no idea where he was before that time so can not find any of his ancestors. He was married to Polly (Mary?) Gifford b. 1820 a prominent name in the area. Gilbert's family moved on to Michigan (at least my direct line), church affiliation was Methodist or Methodist Episcopal, wondering how one might find such records in New York, which possibly might provide some clues? I'm just grasping at straws, but I guess thats what all genealogists do! Took a trip last year to the N.Y. area and find what all geneologists do! Took a trip to the N.Y area last spring and found the dear old soul in a more or less abandoned cemetary near Rome, Oneida County, Verona Twp, New York on Stacybasin Road. I tried fervently to ask him any questions, but he wasn't very cooperative (grin). Also talked to the local historian, a lovely lady, but unfortunately she couldn't help either. Any help at all would be most appreciated. Thanx in advance Barbara Morgan Biggs ORIGIN: 060/007 - GRAND SLAM BBS- Bob Newman - Sylvan Lake,Mich *313-683-0091* The home for BRIDGE PLAYERS and GENEALOGISTS ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ ³ This file is from The Source of Magic, Ridgefield CT ³ ³ 203-431-4687, source for genealogy, radio, & Windows ³ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ Date: Sat Jun 13 1992 22:11:28 From: Iris Grimmett To: John Davis Subj: MORGAN Attr: GENEALOGY ------------------------------- John A 1987 issue of the publication, Morgan Migrations, gives an ancestry for Col. Morgan Morgan that you have a great deal of information on the Morgan family. I have been working on a GEDCOM file of my MORGAN line. It starts with Amanda Morgan, b. 10 Aug 1795 and goes back 18 generations to the 1200's in Wales. It Includes Miles Morgan, b. 1616, one of the original settlers of Springfield Massachusetts. Would you like me to send you a copy of the file, so that we could see if there might be a match with some of your information? I didn't do any of the original research, so I don't know about the accuracy. I did find the Evan Morgan you are speaking of that married Joanna Biles and settled in Philly in my files but that is all I have. My Morgan family are direct descendants of Col Morgan Morgan. Morgan had a son named Evan (not your Evan), but this name Evan is prevelent in my Morgan line. Your Evan could be a brother or other close relative to my Col M. Morgan. I would be happy to reimburse you for any out of pocket costs and share any information that I might find in my files pertaining to your line. My address is: John E. Davis 7820 Ember Oaks Ft. There is a rich heritage associated with this family, but it is not the only Morgan family in early America. I have another book about four other Morgan families in Pennsylvania (Edward Morgan); Connecticut (James Morgan); Massachusetts (Miles Morgan) and others. I would be very interested in your GEDCOM file and I can read it. I am not familiar with the means to which you send me such information. (On a diskette or through the bulletin board). I would be happy to look at this info and compare it to the information that is at my disposal. The book I am speaking of is still in its early stages but I was asked by this gentleman to provide him with any information I could find on the Morgan families. My address is: John E.
