Monfoort

Although my primary interest is the Van Voorhees family I have run
across the Monfoort name several times as they were neighbors as well
as relatives.  The information I have comes mostly for THE NEW YORK
GENEALOGICAL AND BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD Vol. VII, 1876. The Monfoort
Family by Teunis G. Bergen, Esq. of Bay Ridge L.I.

Pieter and Jan Monfoort emigrated from Holland to New Netherlands.
On 15 Dec 1639 Pieter entered into contract with Pieter Alburtus to
make a plantation and build a house. May 29, 1641 Pieter Monfoort
obtained a patent for land at the Wallabout. On 17 Aug. 1642 P.
Monfoort obtained another patent for same premises for a tobacco
plantation on L.I. in the bend of Meyrechkawick. May 29, 1641 patent
granted to Jan Monfoort for land on L.I. next to Rinnegakone. Pieter
Monfoorts plantation was in the possession of the widow of Martin
Ryerse and the widow of Pieter Alberto in Jan Damen. April 27, 1701
P. Monfoort and sife Maria, John Monfoort and wife Ida, Wm.
Cowenhoven and wife Jonica and Claes Wyckoff as heirs at law conveyed
J. Monfoorts patent at the Wallabout to G. Cowenhoven. J. Monfoort
married Geertje Pieterse Lyster and in 1677 they were members of the
Reformed Dutch Church of Brooklyn. He died prior to April 1701
without issue. His plantation was sold by the children of his brother
to G. Cowenhoven. Pieter Monfoort m. Jan 12 or 17 1630 Sarah De
Plancken (Blanck) at Amsterdam. All his children were bap. in New
Amsterdam. He died Jan 4, 16161. Children were: Janica or Jannetife
Pieterse, Jan Pieterse, Pieter Pieterse, Sarah Pieterse and (?)
Willemtje Pieterse. I also have some info on the Monfoorts married to
Vanderbilts, Voorhees, Brinckerhoff, Van Lewen,Banta,Nevis, Cassaert,
Nevins,Vanarsdall,and Conover.
