Two of their children, Hezekiah and Dorcas, married Charlotte and William POTE, respectively. They were the children of Greenfield POTE, brother of my husband's 6gr-grandfather, Gamaliel POTE. Interestingly, Greenfield then married Mary WINSLOW MERRILL after Joshua's death, making them both parents-in-law and stepparents to each other's children. Did I tell you about Ruth Walls, a POTE descendant who sent me some MERRILL information? I have a little more than you showed in your charts. She is an older lady who hand-copies the information she sends me, but always notes her sources. She mentions a book, "Merrill in America - Vol. I: The First Four Generations," by Virginia T. And now we can work this family together. Yes, I knew of a Morris Meryel as a tenent farmer he was the son of Abel Merrill of New Jersey. His family moved in soon after our Merrill left. I believe they where kin though. As of now I am searching the Idea his father was Capt. Edward Merrill of Killingsley Conn. He died in Little Falls New York about five miles from where Morris was living at the time. Also Edward had connections with the Pomeroy Family and our Robbins line. I am also under the impression that more children where born to Rhoda and Morris. If you look at the known children there is two years between all children except for the beginning. I use a PAF program and Roots. Remember I just got this Computer and have not got all the information in it yet. I have located Tudie Belle's death date will send it to you later. I found this book in the celler of my Grandfathers old house when the tractor fell through the top. There have been various names given to the wife of Capt. Merrill Some give the name as Mary Smith others content that she was Jemima Stout of Stoutsburg New Jersey and others give her name as Sarah. But we know she was none other than Jemina Smith of Hopewell N.J.. This fact is self-evident if we consider the records. Andrew Smith made his will Oct. 17,1874 and gave to his daughter Jemima Butler then gives things to children she bear to Ben Merrill and names the children- THis will is at the L.D.S. Library ON May 07/1777 Jacob Wiseman was asked to arbitrate a matter concering the estate of Ben between Harmon Butler and the Merrill Children. I havent seen Marylou Barret on the echo in quite a while. She is looking for a Mary Merrill who was in Whitestown about the same time Morris was. Attr: GENEALOGY ------------------------------- Doris, Doris, Doris....thou art a compulsive person. So I know you are related to me. Before you hurt yourself let me point you in the right direction. (grin) Most of the Merrill families in America are descended from Nathaniel. That line is very documented on some descendents but not on others. Sigh. There are two other lines. One was a William who arrived in the USA about the time Nathaniel and John did. John had only daughters so anyone looking for his line has to go through married surnames etc. Back to William. In the new Merrill newsletter there are a few words about him. Jon told me Morris' family "Went West". Back then going west meant anywhere west of NY, Mass, etc. Your Benjamin came from New Jersey. Here there researchers on Benjamin Merrill have apparently run into a brick wall. Much like Morris researchers. His father could have been the son of Nathaniel who "went west", into New Jersey. (Im talking about Benjamin now). Or, it could have been the William who was the son of the early William I was talking about above. Or it could have been a descendent of Richard who Jon thinks Morris is a descendent of. Richard had a son also who went west, in this case upstate NY to Rennesslear (sp) County. This is Jon and my line. Ted Sarah's brick wall is in Pennsylvania, but he had a ancestor in Whitestown (Whitesboro, etc) which ties he, Jon and I together. (maybe) Marylou Barret has traced her line back to Whitestown also and that is where her brick wall is. m_ .PLUiHeDj3>p3Y>KW sorry about above, I dont know what happened. Where was I. Oh, Dick Listros line is through Asa Merrill and back to Nathaniel. So there you go, one big gigantic puzzle but at least we arent working on it alone. Now that I have throughly confused you I will stop. You and Ruth need to work on getting Benjamin out of NJ. Im still working on getting Morris out of NY. The connection we have, I think, is somehow in NJ. Just a guess. Well, I better get on with it.
