article, you may want to locate birth, death, marriage, land, and 
probate
records on your line.  The Handy Book lists the following records in
Westomoreland Co.:

 County Clerk has birth records from 1893 to 1905, marriage records 
from
1893, and probate records from 1800; Prothonotary has divorce
records; Clerk of Courts has civil court records; and Register of 
Deeds
has land records.  The county seat is in Greensburg, PA 15601.

 The Pennsylvania Department of Health, Division of Vital Records,
P.O. Box 1528, New Castle, PA 16103 has birth and death records from
January 1903.

     Please pardon my delay in getting back to you, Bob.  I've
posted a message for you on the Scotland the Brave BBS and will
check periodically to see if there've been any replies.
  
     As for MC COUN, I thought it might be fruitful to check MC
COWAN and related spellings.  Along this line, have you seen Bob
MC LAREN's messages to Rick RUPERT on MC KOWEN?  There were two
messages, dated 3 June, in which Bob covered quite a lot of MC
KOWEN territory.  Anyway, in my sources here at home, I find:
  
 - From Smith's "A Tartan for Me," the following tartans are
listed as being associated with (MC) COWAN names (this means the
family is probably a sept of the clan whose tartan is given, or
