This association was organized in 1973 and much of their effort is related to the McClung genealogy published by Rev. William McClung in 1904. The association publishes a journal and there are now over 20 volumes for sale. For more info, the editor of the journal is Judith A. McClung, 1507 E. Smith St., Springfield, MO 65803, and the secretary of the association is H. R. Sarah McClung. TW> James and Sarah were supposedly killed in horse and buggy accident TW> around 1880 time frame. Ben stayed with a Doctor who offered to TW> educate him but got tired of the life and ended up around Marshall, TW> Ark where he married Judy Gray. Ben had three brothers--James, TW> William and John. Terry, my reference book "The McClung Genealogy" shows only one James Buford McCLUNG and I think he had to be too old to be yours. However, what little is said about him sort of fits. Here is the descent given: ================================= 1-McCLUNG 2-John McCLUNG, b c1760. Made application for pension 26 May 1833 in Smith Co., TN, with service from SC. In Sumner Co., TN, list of Rev. War pensioners in 1840 aged 80. Married Nancy ?. 3-James Buford McCLUNG. (no dates and no wife given) Emigrated from Sumner Co., TN, to KY. Three daughters. 4-Sidney McCLUNG, m. Mr. SIMMONS of Pembroke, KY. 4-(A dau.) McCLUNG, lived near Pembroke, KY. 4-(A dau.) McCLUNG, lived in Logan Co., KY. When she and her sisters were quite young their mother died and their father took them to a religious people called the Shakers where they remained until they were nearly grown. Their father went to IL and m. 2nd. They never saw him again. ================================== Often family legends like the one you gave are both true and false. Generations get omitted, names get confused, or places reversed. You can't depend on them for much more than clues for obtaining real evidence. Anyway this is the only James Buford McCLUNG (or James B.) in the book. You might check this group out just to eliminate it from your choices. If it is not the right one, then I would suggest that you join the McClung Family Association and read some of the back issues and send in a query. Part of what they are attempting to do is to continue the good work started by Rev. Wm. McCLUNG with his book. Good luck and keep me informed, John. ... John Barron; 510 E.
