Rupp's book does not cover any particular counties. Instead he copied the original lists of names of German, Swiss and other immigrants on file in the Secretary's Office, at Harrisburg, for his first edition in 1856. In the second edition he added lists of first settlers in a number of areas. 324/1118 5 Sep 90 05:57:24 From: James Davis To: Robert Mclaren Subj: LORENTZ, WIENS Attr: ------------------------------------------------ Robert, thank you very much for your help. I didn't expect to find so many Lorentz immigrants to PA. I really appreciate your efforts. What are the dates shown? Departure from the last port, arrival in the port of Philadelphia, or arrival at some other U.S. port, or some registration date in PA? Also the format was Ship's name, master's name, from port, last from port. Was the "from port" where the departed from or where the ship was registered? I suspect the "from port" is where they departed from since these people probably came from Holland or Germany and not from England or Scotland. I wonder if "Palatinate" is a region or a general name for a royal enclave of some sort? I'm a bit confused. Do you know about this word or place? Next the word "foreigners" refers to foreigners to PA or foreigners to Rotterdam? The reason I ask is that sometimes it says "from Wirtemberg, Alsace, and Hanau" but most of the time it says "imported in the ship". I suspect foreigners to PA. Gosh... I don't mean to sound picky, but I'm not sure what is meant so I thought I'd ask. --- * Origin: Dynasty-Box 12, Elk Grove, CA 95759 (916-685-8690) (Opus 1:203/10) 161/503 264/160
