LOCKWOOD by Fred-Diana Bienvenu Mon Jul 01 1991 ------------------------------- Is there any chance that your Jeremiah LOCKWOOD may have been born in CT? There is one mentioned in the IGI, who was b. 24 Dec 1764 Stamford CT. He appears to marry Elizabeth Holcraft on 18 Aug 1791 Stamford CT. The following may be supposed from the IGI information: Jeremiah LOCKWOOD (b.24 Dec 1764) Jeremiah LOCKWOOD (b.1733 Greenwich CT) and Abigail SMITH. Hezekiah LOCKWOOD (b.9 Jun 1706 Greenwich CT) and Ruth. Gershom LOCKWOOD and Hannah. Evidence that we have from "Samuel Mills Ancestry", by S.H. Mills, 1958 suggests that Robert LOCKWOOD, who came from ENG to America in 1630, settled first in Watertown MA, moved to Fairfield CT, d.1658 and whose wife was Susannah, had a son Gershom. The IGI for MA suggests that Robert LOCKWOOD and Susannah NORMAN had ten children in Watertown MA. The last four, which does not include Gershom, are also in the IGI in Fairfield CT. Another LOCKWOOD source is "The LOCKWOOD Genealogy Book", compiled by Frederic A. Holden and Dunbar Lockwood, pub. 1889, Philadelphia. Unfortunately, we do not have more than a couple lines of information from the two references cited, and we do not have access to them at all. Diana is related to the LOCKWOODs through Rose LOCKWOOD, who married John WATERBURY in 1640. Rose may have been a niece of Robert LOCKWOOD, mentioned above as father of Gershom. Although we do not have any clear documentation about your line, perhaps this will give you some new avenues for investigating your Jeremiah LOCKWOOD. If you find that you do link up, we would be very pleased to hear from you! * Origin: 3M Australia (3:711/409) ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ ³ This file is from The Source of Magic, Ridgefield CT ³ ³ 203-431-4687, source for genealogy, radio, & Windows ³ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ Date: Sun Feb 02 1992 02:02:00 From: Glen Keeney To: Roland Fowler Subj: Lockwood Attr: GENEALOGY ------------------------------- RF> My wife's great grandfather was named John Lockwood but we have little I don't find the names you mentioned, but Frank Lockwood, b.1874 Floyd Co. How far back does your information go on this side? If your line connects to the early LOCKWOOD information, it will be interesting for us to join efforts in trying to locate further details. However, since our last LOCKWOOD (Rose) was married into the WATERBURY family by 1650, we will not worry about coming too far into the present with the LOCKWOOD line. Fred-Diana. Lori, We posted the above message on this echo a month ago and wonder whether you have received it, as we have not seen a reply to date. Our NGC link will be dying on March 1st (no longer coming to Australia). We will be receiving both Gen-Eur and Gen-Aus and a message will hopefully get to us on either echo (we understand there are some reliability problems with these too.) If you are unable to get a reply from us, there is always airmail: P.O. Box 382,Myrtleford, Victoria 3737, Australia. Looking forward to hearing from you again! (Our line comes through their son Jonathon WATERBURY.) John d. 31 July 1658 and she remarried to Joseph GARNSEY on 11 May 1659. Perhaps it is because information about her first marriage was not known that some confusion about her maiden name has arisen in recent messages. Our LOCKWOOD correspondent, who descents from a daughter of the John WATERBURY/Rose LOCKWOOD marriage, hypothesizes that Rose may have been a daughter of Edmund LOCKWOOD. So far there is no information to let us know any background for Rose. Hopefully with several people keeping their eyes open we may eventually work it out! The LOCKWOOD references which have been cited to us (although we have not had copies of any to date) are "The Winthrop Fleet of 1630) by Charles E. Banks;the "Samuel Mills Ancestry" compiled by Samuel H. Mills, 1958; and "The Lockwood Genealogy Book" compiled by Frederic A. Holden and Dunbar Lockwood, pub. Philadelphia, 1889. We will write you about the other related lines soon. Fred-Diana. --- Maximus 2.01wb * Origin: Heritage OZ - for genealogy in Melbourne OZ (3:633/372)
