The latter were often recorded as LEES or LEESE. They are unrelated families, apparently, but some of the Saybrook LEEs wound up in southwestern Connecticut, helping settle Ridgefield and other area towns in central Fairfield County ca 1700. Here are the corrections Samuel Hyde and his wife came to Norwich in 1660. Their eldest daughter, Elizabeth, born in Aug of that year (1660), was the first white child born in Norwich. He was a farmer, and had lands assigned to him at Norwich West Farms, where he d. in 1677, at the age of 40 years. And John Birchard became the guardian of his children, who were all minors at that time, The date of his wife's death is not ascertained. Their children were: Samuel, b. in May, 1665, at Norwich, m. Elizabeth CALKINS. John, b. in Dec 1667, at Norwich, m. Experience ABEL. William, b. in Jan, 1670, at Norwich, m. Anne BUSHNELL. Thomas, b. in July, 1672 at Norwich, m. Mary BACKUS. Jabez, b. in May 1677, at Norwich, m. Elizabeth BUSHNELL Elizabeth, b. in Aug. 1660, at Norwich, m. Lieut. Richard LORD. Phebe, b. in Jan 1663, at Norwich, m. Matthew GRISWOLD. Sara, b. in Feg 1675 d. the same year. The correct name for the wife of Thomas LEE is Mary DE WOLF. As I am not an accomplished typist, I made some typos that I overlooked. The above data is correct. I proofed it at least four times. Also, the Hyde genealogy shows all male children, regardless of their birth, before the females. I descend directly from Samuel HYDE, through his son William HYDE. This is the first LEE I have come across. If you can't find the HYDE genealogy, let me know and I'll make a copy and send it to you. ------------------------------- Date: Sun Nov 11 1990 22:36:05 From: Jim Williams To: All Subj: LEE/CT ------------------------------- LEE, /CT [from: Barrett, Coleman, & Magnusson, NGC] . You'll note that I've added another cousin for you. Say hello to Wayne Grogan. I don't have any info yet on how he's tied to your family, but I expect he'll send some. There are several changes and additions since the last index listing you received (except for Bob Coleman, who's address I don't have, and who doesn't answer his messages). Always destroy your previous copy of the index, so that you don't accidentally use the old data, which may be incorrect. The newest index listing ("CT-LEE.txt"; 6 pp), plus an explanation of my FGS Index System ("NDX-EXPL.txt"; 5 pp), and a "read-me.1st" file has been zipped into a "CT-LEE.zip" file (14,833 bytes), and uploaded onto my local GBBS. Unfortunately, my sysop says he doesn't have a way to forward such files onto the NGC network, so it will be a toll call for all of you. Jim Bridges has asked if the file can be freq'd, but he'll have to tell me what that means. The number of my GBBS is 1-415-790-3432, and runs 1200 baud MPN-5. After signing on, type "f;a3", then "d;(protocol);CT- LEE.zip", where (protocol) is zmodem, xmodem, or whatever you use (zmodem is the fastest). Or, you can just type "d", choose a protocol from the list, following that with ";CT-LEE.zip". For those of you unfamiliar with downloading files, see my "To ALL; Re Efficient Use of BBSs".
