KONEN 4/90 Peter KONEN arrived in New York on Mar 4, 1869 aboard the Steamer "Holsatia", from Hamburg, Germany. He was one of 333 other passengers and he was "between decks" to distinguish those that did not have cabins. He was 23 at the time and there were no other Konens on board with him. In 1880, Peter (b. Nov 1845) was living in Rosendale, Ulster Co., NY with: Wilburger wife b.c.1851 (Baden) (1st Wife) Cricencia dau b.c.1873 Peter son b.c.1876 Mary dau b.c.1879 Casper bro b.c.1854 (b. 12/15/1852 Prussia) In 1900, Peter was living in Rosendale (north of Roundout Creek) with: Mary(SHEID) wife b.9/1859 (from Germany in 1872) (2nd wife) Frederick W son b.11/1887 (prior son of Wilburger/Peter) Peter R. son b.9/1892 Augustine son b.4/1895 Marie K. dau b.12/1896 Two additional children had died prior to 1900 In the same rented house lived Katherine Richter, b. 1/1840, (widowed) who arrived from Germany in 1887 and Frederick Richter, son, b.3/1869 also from Germany in 1887. They were probably relatives of Mr. Richter who married Catherine Konen, Peter's Sister or even could be Catherine herself although the census data lists her as having only one child with one child living. This could be an incorrect census entry. In 1910, Peter and Mary owned their home, although financed, in Rosendale. According to the census: Peter R.,17; August,15;and Catherine M.,14; were living with them. Catherine M could be Marie K. since the birth year, 1896, seems to be the same. The 1910 microfilm was generally bad quality and difficult to read. The data also stated that Mary had 6 children of which 5 were still living. This contradicts 1900 data which stated 5 & 3. Peter Konen was the brother of Casper Konen (1852-1940) who was my great- grandfather on my fathers side. Joseph Arlt 686 Longbrook Ave Stratford CT 06497 203-375-4001
