They were members of a colony of Scotch Presbyterians who left Argyleshire, Scotland, forIreland and then fled religious persecution there. There were three brothers - Alexander, John and William. Their descendants spread all over New England. Some lived inVermont. Alexander married Ann McMasters. They and other Kelsos are buried in Forrest Hill Cemetery, East Derry, NH.If you're interested, I'll be glad to send you some info. I am looking for help on the KELSO family of Livinston Co.,IL. Earliest known ancestor, Joseph KELSO, a horse-trader, d.1883, Weston, Livingston Co., IL, m. Mary NELSON. His son, Robert Nelson KELSO, Sr., a racehorse blacksmith, 1878-1950,m. Elizabeth PRICE. Robert Nelson Kelso, Sr., d. 1950 inLexington, KY. There is a possibility this famiy wasdescended from a KELSO or KELSEY family who entered the country in 1767 at Charleston, SC and settled in Chester Co.,SC. Will appreciate any leads.
