Ives in Stanstead Quebec by Dianne Bell 16 Feb 1990 06:16:17 ------------------------------------------------ The following is from "The History of Stanstead County Province of Quebec" compiled by B.F. Hubbard, originally published 1874 in Montreal, facsimile reprint 1988 by Heritage Books: page 271: The Ives Families These families settled in different parts of Stanstead County, are all the descendants of Joseph and Joel Ives. They were natives of Connecticut and came to Canad in 1793. We have no authentic account of their ancestry, but tradition says that they were among the early emigrants to the New England Colonies. Joseph and Joel Ives were men of energy, and their posterity, with hardly an exception, have been intelligent and useful members of the community, some of whome have occupied porminent position in public life. We find them generally identified with the different branches of the Christian Church. Family of Joel Ives Joel Ives, b. in Meriden, Conn., in 1770-m. Lucy Hart, b. in the same town in 1780. He d. There follows more information on the families of Isaac, Harley and Joseph Ives Jr. This is the only reference to Clarissa Hall that I see in this book; there are quite a few other Halls mentioned. -Dianne R.
