HOYT Orange Co, NY by Bruce Julseth Tue Sep 17, 1991 ------------------------------- I am trying to locate more information on my 3rd Great Grandparents Daniel HOYT and Susannah. I know nothing more about Susannah than her name. For Daniel, he was born 21 Mar 1771 (place unknown) and died 21 Aug 1841 (Henrietta, Monroe Co, NY). Birthdate is calculated from his gravestone. Daniel and Susannah had at least 2 daughters, Martha and Eunice. A possible son is Orvin, but I haven't proven that yet. The guess is based on reviewing some land records in Monroe Co. Martha (1790-1879) married Andrew BUSHMAN about 1820 at Henrietta, Monroe Co, NY. According to her obiturary, she was born in Florida, Montgomery Co, NY. I assume they meant Orange Co., as I don't think Florida was ever in Montgomery Co. Eunice was my 2nd GGM born 10 Mar 1798 (CT according to 1870 Census), died 17 Jul 1873 (Evansville, Rock Co, WI). She married my 2nd GGF Leonard BULLARD (1794-1829) on 9 Jan 1815. Sometime between 1829 and 1838 she married again, to Josiah HOWARD. I have looked at "A Genealogical History, HOYT, HAIGHT, and HIGHT families, by David W. HOYT" and "HOYT Genealogy, also by David W. HOYT" and could not locate any of my family. Appreciate any leads you might be able to give me. The old Goody Hoyt who d. 1644 at Windsor may have been his mother. He received a grant of land at Fairfield, 6 Mar. 1649, having previously purchased land there from John GREEN. Not long before his death, he rem. to Stamford, Ct. where he d. 1 Sept. 1657. Benjamin, b. at Windsor, 2 Feb. 1644 [1644/45]. Now the record from another book. --- Simon HOYT had a house-lot granted to him, by Fairfield of 2 1/2 acres in March, 1649. There may have been a Simon, son of Simon, and some of the later of the foregoing records may possibly relate to him; but it seems probable that all the earlier records must refer to one individual. He may have gone from the vicinity of Salem to Dorchester, thence to Scituate, and afterwards have joined Rev. Mr. HUIT's Windsor colony. From the fact that his house in Scituate was not built till after September 1635, it seems possible that Deane may be mistaken in regard to Simon HOYT's being in Scitaute in 1633 or earlier, and he may be the same who was in Dorchester, October 1633. Probably this man was the ancestor of the HOYT's of Connecticut and Western Massachusetts, and perhaps of the HAYTs also. The Windsor records state that "Ould Goode HOYT" died there in 1644, - possibly wife or relative of Simon. Will follow this up with Simon's sons John, Walter and Nicholas or others if requested in following messages. Recommend people with HOYT references in New England hold the information until the connection is made. -Bob- --- Opus-CBCS 1.13 * Origin: SOURCE OF MAGIC Northeast Roots HST 203-431-4687 (1:141/725.0) Date: Mon Sep 28 1992 17:09:52 From: Bob Ellis To: All Subj: John HOYT Attr: GENEALOGY ------------------------------- John HOYT, son of Simon, born (bapt.) at Upway, co.
