HOFSTATTER by Harold Coffman Sun Oct 06 1991 ------------------------------- Hofstatter/Hofstater/Hostatter. There are many ways Hofstatter is spelled, probably accounting for the fact that it is not a common name. I can only think of one Hostatter-a quarterback for the New York Giants. I felt sure that finding Adam Hofstatter in Penn. prior to 1800 would be easy, but such was not the case. I'm looking for information on a Adam Hofstatter that settled in Senica County, New York in early 1800s. He was born in Penn. and married a Polly. She died Oct. 15 1822 in Senica County, and Adam died a short time later. I know of two children, Adam Hofstatter (Jr.) born Dec. 29, prob. in 1821 in Fayette, Senica County, N.Y. There was probably a much older son named John and possibliy a daughter named Margaret who married a George Heck. John 'Hoofstatter' married Mary Forbs. Adam (Jr.) was raised by his brother and sister. He married Lydia Rouse in Yates County on April 25, 1844. She was the daughter of Anthony Rouse. They moved to Wadsworth County, Geneva Township, Wisc. Later (1870s) the family moved to DeKalb County, Missouri. A daughter, Amanda A. Hofstatter married David Paxton Ashby, Adam Township, DeKalb County, on October 4, 1877.
