Tue Oct 29 1991 21:44:38 by Emil Kubiak HILDRETH ------------------------------- My wife's HILDRETH line starts also in 1605 with Sgt. Richard HILDRETH of Concord Middlesex MA. Richard was married to Sarah ____ and they had six children. Jane HILDRETH ,the youngest, married Robert PROCTER 31 Oct 1645. I have info on Richard's later years but am lacking where he was born or who his parents were. If appropriate and interesting, please send me a resume of your information by mail and I will respond in kind. Since your line begins in 1605, I'm wondering if you JH> have Thomas' father. Here's a clue for you to work on. "The Early Hildreth's of New England" by Arthur Hildreth (Privately Printed - June 16, 1894 - in Boston 60 Pgs) of which I have a copy states on Pg 6 ..... "...family antiquarians have been unable to determine the exact date on which Richard Hildreth came to this country....however the town of South- hampton, Long Island was founded in 1640 by some 40 familys from Lynn (Mass) who went filibustering against the Dutch. In a list of these first settlers given in Thompson's History of Long Island is Found the name of Thomas Hildreth. Now your antiquarians take Thomas Hildreth for a brother of Richard. They also assume that the brothers emigrated together. But it is not likely that Tom would rush off filibustering to Long Island the instant he landed in New England. This will bring us say to 1635 as the probable date when the Hildreth's came to New England..............." I do not have my Richard's father nor his exact place of birth (except for "in the North of England" His birth year was probably 1605 (on his gravestone in Chelmsford, Mass). My Richard had a son Thomas by his second wife who was born too late to be the Thomas that you are looking for. If the above is correct, and armed with the tidbit of info that you gave me re your Thomas.....I would venture to assume that the father of your Thomas was THOMAS HILDRETH brother to my RICHARD. I have extensive data on most of my 150+ immigrant ancestor's (after 35 years of research)...AND searching is most of the fun (?). I am more than happy to supply clues for you (or correct ERRORS which are really the nemisis of those of us who are addicted to this terminal desease). What is the source for place of birth of your THOMAS @ Gainford, Durham, ENG? Hope I have been of some help and await your response. ================================= Date: Sun Dec 01 1991 22:27:54 From: Jay Harrison To: Emil Kubiak Subj: Re: Hildreth ------------------------------- EK> I trace Sgt Richard HILDRETH to being born in 1605 EK> in Gainford parish, Durham CO, Northern England. Your Source also states in the information of the line of Hildreth's in County Durham (Near Gainford) that there "is NOT in that line any RICHARD of Suitable date of Birth to be the Richard of Mass". (Also the Richard of Mass had a much younger brother, who accompanied him to Mass and later settled on Long Island). EK> Had eleven children. By 2 of 3 Wives EK> Possibly came Woburn CT about 1635. Woburn MASS, Emil, NOT CT. His line of travel was: ENG; Cambridge, Mass; Woburn, Mass; Chelmsford, Mass died & buried there February 1693. Emil, In all due respect, he died on the 21st of Feb and was buried in the Forefounders Cemetary of Chelmsford, MASS on 23 Feb 1693 EK> My sources EK> of information are: EK> "Second Publ. Hildreth Family Assoc." This publication DOES NOT STATE that RICHARD was born in Durham It only states that there were HILDRETH's in Durham (See Statement above). I gave some hints in my previous answer to your query re the birth place of our RICHARD (It is well documented along with the birth of his Younger brother Thomas), AND HIS MARRIAGE TO DOROTHY COWPER, along with the births of their Children JAMES & JANE and the Death of DOROTHY. Please go back to that and start looking in the West Riding of Yorkshire. EK> "Origin & genealogy of the Hildreth Family Lowall (Lowell, Mass) EK> MA 1892" EK> "The Ancestry of Sarah Hildreth 1773-1857 printed EK> 1958" EK> "Proctor Genealogy ca 1546-1979" See if you can get hold of a book called "Genealogical & Biographical Sketches of the Hildreth Family" (from the year 1652 to down to the year 1840, written by Dr. Samuel P. Hildreth, Marietta, Ohio (1840). It is 15 pages and I expect that it is available @ the Marietta, Ohio Library. It won't tell you much of Richard's ancestry, but It will open some doors for you. EK> "IGI LDS data" Most of this data is INCORRECT as MANY PEOPLE have picked up on the NEGATIVE statement in the 1894 Version of the "Early Hildreths of New England" and turned it into a POSITIVE Statement with NO BASIS OF FACT. (Re the Birth Place of Our RICHARD) EK> Please send me a review of pertinent information EK> you have and information you are looking for Emil, I'm NOT looking, I've already been there, Both Physically In MASS & ENGLAND, I'm just attempting to lead you the right direction. I Have OUR RICHARD's Ancestory back 6 MORE Generations in ENG to the Death of Our RICHARD's GGGGGF (JOHANNES HYLDRETH) in 1482. You did not respond to my statement about the large settlement of Kubiak's in Rockdale, TX (Must not be of any interest to you). ================================= Date: Tue Dec 03 1991 05:25:23 From: Jay Harrison To: Susan Canney Subj: HILDRETH Line ------------------------------- Dear Cousin Susan, Speaking of "Over the Shoulder Reading", I represent that remark: SC> I read your message to Jay Harrison regarding the HILDRETH SC> family.
