HERSHBERGER by Harry Yoder 3 April 1990 ------------------------------------------------ As far as can be determined all Amish-Mennonite Hershbergers (or spelling variations thereof) stem from Christian Hershberger of Bern Township, Berks County, PA It is assumed this Christian Hershberger was the immigrant listed with other Amish-Mennonite passengers on the 1737 "Charming Nancy". Listed with females and children were Barbara, Anna, and Peter Hershberger. Peter Hershberger, son of immigrant, Christian, died in 1797 and in his unindexed will in Dauphin County,PA, he identifies his children as Anna, Abraham, Christian, and Veronica. In his will he designated his "beloved brother Christian of Bern Township" as his executor. Christian, son of immigrant Christian Hershberger, had Magdalena as wife, according to deeds in Berks County. According to genealogist Hugh Gingerich, he was likely a daughter of Peter Gundy. Gingerich suggest the children listing of Christian/Magdalena: John, Christian, Benjamin, Joseph, Daniel, David, Magdalena, Henry, Peter, Elizabeth, and Abraham, as well as two other daughters not identified. - Christian Kauffman: His Descendants and His People by S.
