GRAVES WINSHIP HANNUM by Henry Riley Thu Apr 11 1991 ------------------------------- Found J.C. Graves volume on Thomas Graves of Hatfield,MA, when I was at the NEHGS Library in Boston, just before Easter. It did not hit my line. However,I examined some of The Graves Family Newsletter copies there and did get a valid line on my GRAVES ancestors. It turns out they descend from John GRAVES of Concord. John C. Graves also descends from this John and through a monograph genealogy on him and another on Harvey Baker Grves,I was able to fill in quite a lot of the gap to my Metcalf Fisher Graves. I further confirm that it was the right Metcalf through Census records I had checked earlier. My line is as follows: 1. John Graves from England in Concord MA, ca 1635. 2. Benjamin Graves b. in Concord,MA, then of Saybrook,CT in 1703. 3. Benjamin Graves,b. in Concord,MA, eventually in Colchester,CT. 4. Jedediah Graves,of East Haddam and finally New Fairfield (now Sherman,CT. 5. Allen Graves,b. in East Haddam,CT,in Revolutionary War,settled in Claverack district,Albany Co,NY.Went in final years to live with son,Azariah in Rupert,VT, where both he and his wife died. 6. Azariah Graves,b.possibly in CT. Eventually of Rupert,VT. 7. Metcalf Graves,b. in VT, eventually of Hatings, Oswego Co,NY. 8. Mary Graves b. Hastings,NY, m. Charles Jerome Winship in West Pawlet, VT. 9. Hattie Lovina Winship,b. West Pawlet,VT, m. Charles P. Hannum in Rutland, VT. Moved to MA early 1900 and d. in Malden,MA. 10.Katheryn Hannum,b.Everett,MA,m Henry E. Riley in Everett,MA. He died in Malden,MA. She died in Arlington, VA. 11.Henry. E. Riley, b. in Boston, Ma. M. Ruth N. Sieswerda of Malden. Currently in Arlington,VA. Answers still needed: Wife of John of Concord? Allen's wife surname? Birthplace of Azariah, his wifes's name and other children beside Metcalf Fisher? Also their birthdates? I have no reference of Goodwin for either George or Thomas GRAVES. The source for both these gentlemen is Luicius Barnes Barbour, "Families of Early Hartford, Connecticut", 1977, Gen. Pub. Co., Baltimore. Pages for GRAVES 282-4. Pages for LORD 371-6. The reference of Goodwin, had to pertain to Richard LORD b. 1611 who married Sarah GRAVES, dau of George and Sarah GRAVES. This marriage may be questionable. That source is Nathaniel Goodwin, "Genealogical Notes or Contributions to the Family History of Some of the First Settlers of Connecticut and Massachusetts", 1982, Gen. Pub. Co., Baltimore. Pages for LORD 347-50. I do not have extracted pages for GRAVES. Both these references list only names in the 1600's and first few years of 1700. No listings in the time period your people are in. You may inquire of Dexter Edge, Bobby Shandrew, or Jim Bridges who seem to also have the LORD/GRAVES connection. Perhaps they have more on the later GRAVES line. -Jack- --- Blue Wave/Max v2.01 * Origin: The GeneSplicer's BBS, Las Vegas, Nv.
