Gannon Research by Bonnie Bunce Thu Nov 12 1992 ------------------------------- -=> Quoting Chas Gannon to Maryland Huebschman <=- CG> Searching GANNON-east TX/Rusk county/Sabine river; Charles, many years ago I corresponded with an old gentleman named Joseph Gannon, who then lived part of the year in Dundee, NY. I got his name and address from "The Genealogical Helper" location index, because I had wanted to find someone who was a resident of Yates Co. NY to locate the graves of my ancestors there. He was doing research on the Gannon surname, and was going to write up a book, but he was only at the outline stage in 1985, the year he said he would be turning 90. Briefly, his line started with his g.g.grand- father, Abram Gannon b. 1775 d. 1879 in Warwick, Orange Co. NY. Joe Gannon told me he had records for 2 brothers of Abram, Benjamin, b. 1767 and was buried at Bradford NY cemetery; and Joseph b. 1762. About Joseph Mr. Gannon said he had a memo that Joseph and his parents moved from Warwick to the banks of the Susquehanna River in Northumberland Co. PA prior to the Rev.War, and after the war, Joseph returned to Warwick, and later was found in Elmira, Chemung Co. NY about 1823 and was still there in 1834. Mr. C. Joseph Gannon's lineage was: Abram, b. 1775, d. 1879 Warwick, Orange Co. NY (his g.g.grandfather) Benjamin, b. 3-Oct-1803, d. 1880 (his g.grandfather) John, b. 1842, Reedville, Seneca Co., Ohio (his grandfather) ________ (don't have name of his father, but he lived in Dundee NY) C. Joseph Gannon, b. 1895, Dundee, NY, spent winters in Florida Mr. C. Joseph Gannon probably died a number of years ago, but his research papers on the Gannon family may still exist. In one of his letters to me he had stated that he had donated my information on the Bunce family to the Dundee Historical Society, Dundee NY 14837. It's possible they also have his research papers on his Gannon family. Also in another letter he said he had a nephew named Clarence Sebring, who was an official of the local school district. In 1979 Clarence lived at Rock Stream NY, and it's possible he has Mr. C. Joseph Gannon's papers or knows what happened to them, or he may be able to tell you whether Mr. C. Joseph Gannon ever finished his Gannon genealogy. You might try writing one or both of these addresses to see what you can find out. It would be a shame to have all of Mr. Gannon's work not be used. I don't know if any of the Gannon descendants ever went to TX but since they apparently were in Ohio and I also found records of the name in Iowa, there's a good possibility some went further west. Good luck. ...
