DRAKE Family by Dick Hurst 4 May 1990 ------------------------------------------------ I have some information on the early DRAKE family in CT, having descended from Hannah DRAKE (b. 1653 Windsor) who married Capt. John HIGLEY (b. 1649 Hartford). Hannah was d/o John DRAKE (b. ca 1620) and Hannah MOORE, and gd/o John DRAKE (b. 1585, Devonshire) and Elizabeth ROGERS. "Genealogies and Biographies of Ancient Windsor", Vol II of "The History of Ancient Windsor, Conn." by Henry R. Stiles, publ. 1892, reprint 1976, covers early generations in America and carries this DRAKE family back about 8 generations in England to John DRAKE and Christian BILLETT in Exmouth, Devon, in 1360. "FYLER History and Genealogy" published by the FYLER Family Association in 1967, covers some of the DRAKE family and carries the Royal ancestry of the DRAKE family back through Ann (or Amy) GREENVILLE, wife of John DRAKE (b. approx. 1485) -- back through Charlemagne. Walter FYLER was a fellow passenger of John DRAKE on the "Mary & John" in 1630 when so many of the early Windsor settlers emigrated. The genealogies of many of these passengers tie in with one another, so that the series of books "The Passengers of the Mary & John 1630" published by the Mary & John Clearing House should be a good source for early DRAKE families, although I have not had a chance to see them. Neither of these references show the tie-in with Sir Francis DRAKE. I would be interested in just how he fits. If you are interested in the royal line of Ann GREENVILLE and can't find a copy of the FYLER genealogy, let me know and post your address or drop me a line. Dick Hurst, 789 N.
