DOTY - SKILLMAN by John Rhodes Sun Dec 09 1990 ------------------------------- Not being a DOTY expert, I've run into the problem with John DOTY (4), Samuel (3), Samuel (2), Edward (1 of the Mayflower). John (4) is said to have married Osie SKILLMAN, dau of Jan SKILLMAN b. 1696. The marriage of John and Ocie is said to be 1730 but their children started coming in 1732. Osie more likely was a sister of Jan if related at all. Can anyone help me with this Ocie and her dates and parents? I've gotten my data from Brown, Katherine Jane Parker "Parker Pathways" 1986 pages 515ff. John Rhodes P.O. I has putting some DOTY data into PAF today and I cam across Elizabeth COOKE [3562], b.18 Jan 1648 at Plymouth, wife of John DOTY. I had previosly come across Elizabeth COOKE b.18 Jan 1648/9 at Plymouth, dau of Jacob COOKE and Damaris HOPKINS. My source is Stephen Hopkins of the Mayflower (Mayflower Families in Progress) by John D Austin, 1989, published by General Society of Mayflower Descendants. It doesn't go into details about Elizabeth but refers to their book on Francis COOKE. I don't believe in that much coincidence-it must be the same person. Can you confirm? Thanks. BTW did you copy the previous message to me from Jeffrey Palmer (1:106/5433). He extracted from `Plymouth Colony It's History and People 1620-1691' by Eugene Aubrey Stratton, 1986, Ancestry Inc: William SHERMAN is on list of individuals taxed on 25 March 1633 in the amount of 9 shillings. Will also appears on a compliled list of individuals who arrived between 1627-1634. The last reference is on the 1643 Able to Bear Arms list for Duxborrow. (maybe that's Duxbury) Finally some things I've noticed in your HATCH notes. On page 8, third line from the top for HATCHE, Thomas [1662], his death is given as bef 13 Oct 1574 or 25 Oct 1568; yet previous line has his wife remarry bef 25 Oct 1574. Are these dates all correct? Further down the page for 1. Winifred HATCHE [1664], I assume the "died Oct 1592" refers to Winifred and not her husband but it is a little ambiguous. On p.11: 4. Elizabeth HATCH [1595] married her second husband before her first died; is this correct? And on p.12: Jeremy OSBORNE [1658]-"baptized as". Thanks. I am still feeding it into the computer so I may find some other gremlins. Thanks for all the great stuff. His daughter Susanna was born in NJ in 1751, according to information submitted to the IGI by a distant relative. I suspect this is the son of Daniel, son of Samuel Jr., son of Samuel, son of Edward DOTY (the Mayflower immigrant). I looked at several books on Edward DOTY (including the DOTY-DOTEN family book) and none of them gave me any more information; but Daniel the son of Samuel Jr. was born in 1707, so either he or Daniel the son of Samuel Sr. would be the right age. However, Daniel the son of Samuel Jr. is mentioned in the book as having a son named Daniel. The book also states that Daniel son of Samuel Jr. lived in Sussex Co. NJ, near Easton, PA, and that no records of him are found in either state after 1769. Since my Susanna DOTY married in Shenandoah Co. VA in 1771, it seems likely that these DOTYs moved to VA after 1769. (Does all this make sense?) Anyway, would be glad to share the little I have with you, and I'd lvoe to have what you've got. A disk would be fine, 5-1/4", either high-density or low. I use Brother's Keeper, so GEDCOM would work.
