DENISON and HASKEL by Sue Budlong 4 June 1990 ------------------------------------------------ Well, Pete, it was a good idea while it lasted. I DID turn up one HASKEL - DENISON marriage, but the names and dates are a little off. However, for what it's worth, here's the information: - From E. Glenn Denison, Josephine Middleton Peck, and Donald L. Jacobus. "Denison Genealogy: Ancestors and Descendants of Captain George Denison." Stonington [CT]: The Pequot Press, Inc. Copyright 1963 by The Denison Society, Inc. Page 135: "2025 LUCY P DENISON (Hen C - Saml - John - Robt - John - Geo) b June 9 1808; m Aug 29 1825 Nahum Haskell. Children (HASKELL): 3905 Sarah D m Hen S Chase. Had 4 chn. 3906 Henry C D. 3907 James N. 3908 Lucy Perrin b Woodstock, Vt." There's no further information on this family. I then took a stab at a couple of HASKELL books. Both were hard to use and of questionable value. These were: - B. Lake Hoyes, M.D. "Deer Isle Pioneers (including Stonington) Maine." 1901; revised 1928. This is nothing more than a set of bound galley proofs; evidently the author never quite finished it, or else he couldn't afford the printing and publication costs. It has no table of contents or index. Though the catalog card indicated only one volume, I got a slip with the book saying "The other volumes asked for are not on the shelf" - so if anything's missing, I can't tell what it is. I flipped through this "book" but didn't see any mention of a DEN(N)ISON. - Ira J. Haskell. "Chronicles of the Haskell Family." Lynn [MA]: Ellis Printing Co., 1943. This also has no index, and the chapter headings are very creative. In addition, though each of the later chapters is followed by a summary descendancy chart, the charts use almost NO dates. In Chapter 12, "Branch of Ensign William and his sons: Wm. of Harpswell, Mark of Deer Isle and James of Harvard," I did find mention of Nahum HASKELL's marriage, as follows (page 200): "Nahum m 1st Lucy Perrin Deneson [sic] 5 ch. Woodstock, Vt. 2nd Mary (Patton) Raymond Henry E.D., Lucy B., Naham [sic], Jr. Jas. Nelson m Lorraine had Chas. N. Sarah D. m Dr. Henry Chase to Iowa" From other parts of the chart, I learned that Nahum's ascendants were James (m Sarah POLLARD), James (m Lydia WHITCOMB), James (m Anna GOODHUE). Beyond that, I got lost in the intricacies of the chart. There's probably more in this book, but it'd take a day to dig it out! However, if you'd like me to copy pages from it, please let me know. I'll be unavailable for the next couple of weeks, but will be able to tackle it after that. ... Sue Budlong in Falls Church, VA * Origin: NGS/CIG BBS - Arlington, VA (703) 528-2612 *DHST/V.32*
