John CRANSTON was b. abt 1625 in Scotland or London, England and d. at Newport, RI, while serving as Governor, 12 Mar 1679/80. He md. at Newport, 3 Jun 1658, Mary CLARKE, b. at Newport abt 1641, d. there 7 Apr 1711, dau of Jeremiah and Frances (LATHAM) CLARKE of Newport. She md. (2) Capt. John STANTON, widower, b.
