COVART (COVERT) (COOVERT) 6/90 Harriette COVART was born Sept. 29, 1831 in Glen Spey, an area of Sullivan Co. NY that was known as Lumberland. This area was in the rolling Catskill Mountains and was suited for agriculture and lumbering being near the Deleware River. The area had boarding houses and taverns as well as farms to support the lumbering. Sullivan County was part of Ulster County until 1809. The Covarts were farmers. Her father, William Covart, was born c. 1793 in NY State. He probably had 5-10 children of which I can identify the following: James b. c. 1820 Harriette b. c. 1833 Andrew b. c. 1835 George b. c. 1837 Her mother was named Anna REIDER and was born c. 1798 in NY State. Her grandfather, James Covart, fought in the Revolutionary War and her grandmother REIDER was killed by the indians in NY. She married George CLARK c. 1850. George was born Oct. 17, 1822 in NY State and died Sep.20, 1885. The children I can identify are: Mary J. b. c. 1851 Ella b. c. 1851/1854 d. 1/22/1929 Martin Dominick b. c. 1852 d. 9/16/1899 M. In 1860, their farm, in Eldred/Highland NY, was also home to Samuel Clark, 78, who was blind. Samuel could have been George's father or uncle and was born c.1782 in NY State. As a point of reference, The Civil War occurred 1861 to 1865. Harriette died Mar 18, 1889 of pneumonia complicated with valvular disease of the heart at age 58. She was my g-g-grandmother on my mother's side. She is buried in Elred cemetery next to her husband and two of her infant children, Anna A. and William C. Joseph A.
