CONE by Janis Grove 11 Feb 1990 ------------------------------------------------ The following is from pg. 320, Some Account of the Cone Family in America, principally of the descendants of Daniel Cone, who settled in Haddam, Connecticut, in 1662. Compiled by William Whitney Cone, 1903, printed by Crane & Co., Topeka, Kansas "Joseph CONE, son of Joseph CONE and Susannah WELLS, b. Haddam, Conn., 27 Sept. 1727, m., but I have no record of wife. He was a sea captain in early life. Removed about 1790 to Tompkins co., N.Y. In 1762 the General Assembly of Conn. appointed him Lt. of the first company in "train-band", East Haddam. Family tradition is that he was a Lt. in NY State troops in Rev War, enlisting Dec 18, 1776. This may be the case. It is certain, however, that he was a "pioneer" in western NY, and died in Tompkins co. in 1822, aged 95 yrs. Children: * Enoch b. Nov 14 1766, m. Elizabeth Cook; d. 31 May 1831 Lydia b.
