I reconstructed my Rhode Island lines 8-10 years ago, using two major
sources: James Newell Arnold's "Vital Records of Rhode Island"
(various volumes) and John Osborne Austin's "Genealogical Dictionary
of Rhode Island."  I then did what I've done with all my New England
lines: put them on the back burner for further research _after_ I've
worked on the lines that aren't so well documented.  I'm still
struggling with the latter, so I haven't returned to serious work on
the New England folks.  Meantime, people just keep writing articles
about them, in a sense doing some of my work for me :-) !
  
     Anyway, what I have on BARNARD is Mary BARNES or BERNARD
(i.e., BARNARD), wife of Roger WILLIAMS, baptized 1609 in Wotsop,
Nottinghamshire, England, married 15 Dec 1629, died after 1676. 
For her father, I have ?Rev. Richard BARNARD? (no further info);
no info on her mother.
  
     As for FISHER and POTTER, I think we discussed the sum total
of my info on them a couple of weeks ago.  As I said then, I owe
a letter to a cousin who claims to have done some research on
these lines; I'll be sure to ask her about them when I write and
will forward anything she might have.  Don't hold your breath on
this, though--we exchange about two letters a year!
  
     With regard to WATERMAN, again from Austin and Arnold, I
have the following: Waite WATERMAN b. ca 1668, d. ca 1711, m. 12
Feb 1684/85 John RHODES (1658-?1716?).  Waite was daughter of
Resolved WATERMAN, b. 1638 ?Providence, RI?, d. 1670, m. ca 1659
to Mercy WILLIAMS, daughter of Roger WILLIAMS and Mary BARNARD. 
Resolved was son of Richard WATERMAN, b. ca 1590 England, d. 26
Oct 1673, bur. Providence, RI, m. ? to Bethiah ___, who d. 3 Dec
1680.  I know this is earlier than the date span you posted to
Penny Smith, but maybe you can make the link using sources such
as Arnold's "Vital Records."
